There appears to be a pattern in how authors develop protagonists showing how their preferences, whether it be magic or weaponry or friends, reflects the character’s personality.

(Sara Hanover) Through the gallery walk, I noticed that a lot of the slides contained main characters that faced a specific obstacle. There was a general theme of heroism throughout the walk as well. Kevin said that a lot of the characters had a Type A personality, and I think that was a key point too.

Lots of the images involve a random normal person who has something sprung upon them. Mr. Clements wanted us to learn how similar the characters learn and how plots can be almost identical but completely different.

Nearly all of the posters I looked at in my gallery walk contained questions regarding the similarities between the photos, and to my surprise, like me, the majority of the class mentioned that the characters have a similarity in personality. Some kind of revelation or heroism between the characters, which Kevin Diller described as “a type A personality”. The only exception to the pattern I found was in Kendall Glassman’s group, where their group found that we tried to connect the images naturally to make more sense of them.

Patterns that I’m seeing within all the research, questions, and findings are the comparisons on stories, heroes, and their own backgrounds within their respective stories. Connections shown between most of the images are the main character shown as heros and fighting for a greater cause., such as fighting in rebellions and fighting a greater evil.

Most of the research questions are asking how to relate aspects of characters to certain themes or a common trait. Connections between the intentions and behaviors of the characters are being made clear through the research and responses of students. I believe Mr. Clements gave us these pictures because while they are fairly easy to analyze, relating all of them requires you to use your previous knowledge and pair it with observations and inferences to create an educated relationship between the images.

I have seen many guilds have formed similar questions, relating to certain characters and their personalities. I have seen that not only do the characters relate to other characters, they can also relate to objects, the theme, and even characters from other movies. Although these relationships are not easily realized, they can be very significant and can dramatically affect the plot of a story. Mr. Clements assigned this project because he wanted us to be able to compare these relationships and support our answers.
