Before coming to power, JFK was criticized as an unfledged candidate and too young to assume power. However, after being elected he was canonized by one of the biggest nations in the world. He achieved greatness by confronting the Russians in the Cold War with his parleys and stopping the Cuban Missile Crisis. His Sovereignty inspired millions of Americans and this portentous figure was on his way to becoming one of the greatest presidents of all time until tragedy stroke in a beautiful sunny day in Dallas, Texas. It was a day that brought tears to many Americans after news indicated he was fatally shot in the head while riding a Motorcade after giving a campaign speech. Therefore, by being a beloved character with a great future that ended up being in vain, it is clear to conclude John F. Kennedy was a tragic hero.

Whether they are inappropriate, tragic, funny or sad, most of our daily life experiences around us are portrayed by the news every day. Ever since Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1440, the revolutionary invention had a huge contribution to technology which one of its major effects was the creation of the News industries. Furthermore, News has become an incredibly important aspect of our daily lives, reporting important events occurring near us and making the people aware of the truth. Ironically, even though News were invented with the main goal to report events with fairness, balance and integrity, capitalistic industrial motives have created competition among each industry, leading to our important theme in news today which is “if it bleeds it leads”. This important theme has introduced tragic heroes throughout history depending on how they are portrayed by the media today. As psychologists indicate, it is proven that tragic stories is one of the most luring reports that attracts viewers. Therefore, by providing the correct description and perspective about an specific event to a big audience, the media can portray the image they desire out of any given situation.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born into a wealthy family of nine brothers in Brookline, Massachusetts. He enjoyed a privileged childhood of elite private schools and many benefits that made him economically blessed. After graduating high school, he attended Harvard university where he wrote a best selling book about Britain’s role in the war called “Why England Slept” which demonstrated his highly developed strategic skills to the world. “The book received positive critical reviews and, much to the surprise of all concerned, the book became a bestseller. A total of 80,000 copies were sold. As a result, Jack became an instant celebrity. In addition, he earned $40,000 in royalties”(History Central). After becoming a worldwide sensation and demonstrating his leadership potential, he served his country during World War II at the pacific and his actions made him an American hero. During these glorious years of his life, he decided to continue serving his country when he entered the house of representatives from 1953 to 1961. His energetic and youthful American idealism lead Americans to elect him as the youngest U.S president to serve in the office, making him one of the most promising U.S presidents of the time and leading to a tragic hero after all hopes were crushed with a tragic ending.

November 21, 1963, Dallas, Texas; it was a beautiful sunny day in which fellow Texans shared the privilege of attending a speech by their national hero, the 35th U.S president of the United States. After giving an inspirational speech, John F. Kennedy rode through cheering crowds in a roofless car and unfortunately, tragedy struck in an unexpected moment, when gunshots were heard from an upstairs window. The result was the tragic death of one of the most prosperous U.S presidents of all time and a dark moment in American history. As described by The Boston Globe, this news media portrayed the assassination as a tragedy by making their headline “Shock… Disbelief… Grief” and so did other media icons like The Montana Standard with “Sniper kills president” as headline. Based on this evidence, we can clearly see how the media can portray a tragedy with the use of few words containing tragic elements.
