         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Tragedy in Colombia’s Putumayo claims 234 lives with 158 reported missing.<br><br></em>Rescue teams suspended operations on Saturday night limiting the possibility to find survivors among the debris caused by a powerful avalanche that devastated Mocoa early Saturday morning. With no electricity in this city of 65,000 and hospitals running short on blood and medicines to attend to more than 202 injured, on Sunday morning the Colombian government confirmed the death toll at 234.<br>Despite the first shipments of humanitarian aid arriving in Mocoa from the Colombian capital late Saturday, emergency crews were forced to suspend operations as even more rain fell on this city hampering efforts to recover bodies from the debris.<br><br></div><div><a href="http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/colombia">http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/colombia</a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><em>TRUMP LAUNCHES MISSILE STRIKE ON SYRIA<br><br></em>President Trump ordered the launch of dozens of cruise missiles last night to strike a Syrian airfield in retaliation for the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons on civilians.<br><br>The US military fired at least 50 Tomahawk missiles at the Shayrat airfield in western Syria, targeting infrastructure including runways and aircraft.<br><br>Mr Trump said the base was used to stage a chemical weapons attack which killed at least 86 people, including 27 children, in a rebel-held town in Idlib province on Tuesday.<br><br>In a televised address confirming the “targeted military strike”, Mr Trump said there could be “no dispute” Syria had used banned chemical weapons.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br>CO<em>LOMBIA DISCOVERS ‘BIGGEST NATURAL GAS DEPOSIT IN NATIONAL HISTORY’<br><br></em> Colombia state-run oil company Ecopetrol said that it has found the country’s largest natural gas deposit in history just off the Caribbean coast.<br><br>Ecopetrol and US energy company Anadarko allegedly found the massive gas deposit in national waters off the coast of the Caribbean provinces Sucre and Cordoba.<br><br>According to newspaper El Tiempo, the gas column that was found could be as 520 meters long, making it the biggest gas deposit ever found in the country.<br><br>Getting the gas out of its underwater deposit and making it available for sale could take both companies another 10 years of development, the newspaper said.<br><br>The discovery of such a huge discovery is a major victory for Ecopetrol, whose oil reserves are expected to run out within five years.<br>Additionally, low commodity prices have lessened foreign investors’ appetite to investing the oil and mining industry.<br><br><strong>Available in: </strong> <a href="http://colombiareports.com/colombia-discovers-biggest-natural-gas-deposit-national-history/">http://colombiareports.com/colombia-discovers-biggest-natural-gas-deposit-national-history/</a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><em>LAVAR BALL BLAMES UCLA'S 'WHITE GUYS' FOR SWEET 16 LOSS TO KENTUCKY<br></em>LaVar Ball has once again thrust himself into the national spotlight with an utterly asinine comment.<br><br>Ball, in an interview with the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, blamed UCLA's Sweet 16 loss to Kentucky — and more importantly, his son Lonzo's loss — on the Bruins' "white guys."<br><br>“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow,” LaVar Ball told the Register. “I told Lonzo — ‘One of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points.' It turned out the that was the one game. Then once they get to the Elite 8, they’re right there.”<br><br>Ball probably was referring to UCLA starters TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford and Thomas Welsh. The three combined for 39 points, while Lonzo Ball went for 10 points and eight assists in the Bruins' 86-75 loss to Kentucky.          <description><![CDATA[<div><del><br></del><strong><em>Charlie Gard case: Doctors can withdraw baby's life support</em></strong></div><div><br>Specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital said eight-month-old Charlie Gard has irreversible brain damage and should be moved to palliative care.<br><br></div><div>His parents Connie Yates and Chris Gard, from London, had wanted to take him to the US for a treatment trial.<br><br></div><div>They said they were "devastated" by the decision but intended to appeal.<br><br></div><div>Their solicitor, Laura Hobey-Hamsher, said they could not understand why Mr Justice Francis had not "at least given Charlie the chance of treatment".<br><br></div><div>She said the couple would take further advice on challenging the ruling once their legal team had studied it.<br><br></div><div>They have three weeks to lodge an appeal.<br>Hospital bosses said they would continue to provide life-support treatment until a decision about an appeal had been made.<br><a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-39568388">http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-39568388</a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has announced a three-month state of emergency after attacks on two Coptic churches that left at least 44 dead.<br></strong><br>The measure allows authorities to make arrests without warrants and search people's homes. It needs to be approved by parliament before it is implemented.</div><div><br>So-called Islamic State (IS) said it was behind the blasts in Tanta and Alexandria on Palm Sunday.</div><div><br>The group has targeted Copts in Egypt recently and warns of more attacks.</div><div><br>Mr Sisi made a defiant speech at the presidential palace after a meeting of the national defence council to discuss the explosions.</div><div><br>He warned that the war against the jihadists would be "long and painful", and said that the state of emergency would come into force after all "legal and constitution steps" were taken.          <description><![CDATA[<h1><strong>Ongoing attacks on Colombia’s security forces claim another soldier’s life</strong></h1><div><br>Alleged dissident <a href="http://colombiareports.com/farc/">FARC</a> guerrillas killed a soldier in the latest of a series of attacks on Colombia’s security forces since peace was closed with the country’s second largest rebel group in November last year.<br><br></div><div>The latest attack took place in the rural part of El Retorno, a municipality in the central Guaviare province that was largely under FARC control until the group abandoned its territories following a peace deal with the government.<br>According to the military, the explosives attack on the road between Calamar and San Jose de Guaviare left one soldier dead and three injured.<br><br></div><div>A fifth soldier disappeared after the attack, but was later found by colleagues and was reported to be out of danger.<br><br></div><div>The National Army blamed members of the FARC’s dissident 1st Front of the attack. This former FARC unit is the most notorious of six guerrilla fronts that have refused to take part of the peace process.<br><br></div><div>According to the mayor of Guaviare, the FARC’s dissident 7th Front is active in the area where the attack took place.<br><br></div><div>While the Guaviare incident is the first deadly attack attributed to dissident FARC guerrillas, the Colombian security forces have lost numerous men since the country’s peace process took effect in an accumulation of attacks by guerrilla, organized crime and paramilitary groups.In northeast Colombia, the security forces are a target for guerrilla group <a href="http://colombiareports.com/eln/">ELN</a>, which dominated much of that region and is suspected of killing at least four members of the security forces.<br>However, paramilitary group <a href="http://colombiareports.com/urabenos/">AGC</a> and its ally, the <a href="http://colombiareports.com/oficina-de-envigado/">Oficina de Envigado</a>, have been targeting police in northeastern Colombia, assassinating at least five since December 1 when the FARC peace deal took effect.<br><a href="http://colombiareports.com/ongoing-attacks-colombias-security-forces-claim-another-soldiers-life/">http://colombiareports.com/ongoing-attacks-colombias-security-forces-claim-another-soldiers-life/</a></div>]]></description>
