President Trump opened a joint press conference with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday afternoon by condemning the chemical attack against civilians one day earlier in Syria.
“Yesterday. Chemical attack. A chemical attack that was so horrific in Syria against innocent people, including women, small children and even beautiful little babies. Their deaths was an affront to humanity,” Trump said. “These heinous actions by the Assad regime cannot be.

Trump said the United States stands with its allies throughout the world in condemning the attack and “all other horrific attacks for that matter.”

Dustin Johnson is facing a race against time to be fit for the Masters after injuring his back after falling down some stairs.

No.1 ranked Johnson is due to tee-off at Augusta on Thursday but slipped on steps at his rental home as he prepared for the Major.

 The 2016 US Open champion is in a stable condition and is taking anti-inflammatory medication. American Johnson is said to have landed hard on his back and is resting in discomfort but hopes to take part in the Masters this week.

Specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital said eight-month-old Charlie Gard has irreversible brain damage and should be moved to palliative care.

His parents Connie Yates and Chris Gard, from London, had wanted to take him to the US for a treatment trial.

They said they were "devastated" by the decision but intended to appeal.

Their solicitor, Laura Hobey-Hamsher, said they could not understand why Mr Justice Francis had not "at least given Charlie the chance of treatment".

She said the couple would take further advice on challenging the ruling once their legal team had studied it.

They have three weeks to lodge an appeal.
Hospital bosses said they would continue to provide life-support treatment until a decision about an appeal had been made.

The Vatican is considering allowing Pope Francis to visit Mocoa, the city in southern Colombia that lost hundreds of its inhabitants in mudslides last week, reported Caracol Radio.

Citing sources within the national government, Caracol reported that the committee organizing the papal visit is currently studying whether the conditions in the half-destroyed town allow a visit of the Catholic Church highest clergy in September.

The Vatican’s ambassador in Colombia, Apostolic Nuncio Ettore Balestrero, visited the disaster site Thursday last week, the radio station reported.

So far, the Vatican has confirmed Pope Francis will visit the cities of Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena and Villavicencio.

Heather Watson’s hopes of playing in the French Open suffered a blow with a first-round defeat by Anett Kontaveit at the Biel Bienne Open in Switzerland.

Alleged dissident FARC guerrillas killed a soldier in the latest of a series of attacks on Colombia’s security forces since peace was closed with the country’s second largest rebel group in November last year.

The latest attack took place in the rural part of El Retorno, a municipality in the central Guaviare province that was largely under FARC control until the group abandoned its territories following a peace deal with the government.
According to the military, the explosives attack on the road between Calamar and San Jose de Guaviare left one soldier dead and three injured.

A fifth soldier disappeared after the attack, but was later found by colleagues and was reported to be out of danger.

The National Army blamed members of the FARC’s dissident 1st Front of the attack. This former FARC unit is the most notorious of six guerrilla fronts that have refused to take part of the peace process.

According to the mayor of Guaviare, the FARC’s dissident 7th Front is active in the area where the attack took place.

While the Guaviare incident is the first deadly attack attributed to dissident FARC guerrillas, the Colombian security forces have lost numerous men since the country’s peace process took effect in an accumulation of attacks by guerrilla, organized crime and paramilitary groups.In northeast Colombia, the security forces are a target for guerrilla group ELN, which dominated much of that region and is suspected of killing at least four members of the security forces.
However, paramilitary group AGC and its ally, the Oficina de Envigado, have been targeting police in northeastern Colombia, assassinating at least five since December 1 when the FARC peace deal took effect.
