Mindfulness could be very effective in certain team focused projects.

For example, I would encourage the team to focus on a particular aspect of a new project, put down their thoughts as individuals and then we can come together to discuss them.

It would be important to ensure they felt it was a safe and welcoming space to share their ideas and discuss potential outcomes going forward

Mindfulness is mist effective as a team-based initiative in governance situations. This is because being mindful of our uncertainties around governance change and as a team address any pain points or anxiety around change. Being mindful as a team around governance change will ensure the broader effected staff's emotions will be acknowledged and respected. This will enable us to ensure a smoother governance change transition

Mindfulness would be an effective team-based initiative to encourage focus on the present rather than looking too far into the future or dwelling on past actions when making decisions. It may also help identify the different mindsets of individuals within the team and improve team dynamics. However, for it to be effective, individual team members must understand the importance of practising mindfulness on an individual level

From my own experience, mindful activities help provide a moment for the nervous system to reset after high cortisol environments, like managing a business or team. Guiding teams through uncertainty or facing new challenges is only possible if you’re able to bring yourself back into the present and be with those who need guidance. Mindfulness can help your brain get the break it needs to see a challenge from a different perspective. I know I’ve done this on many occasions when I’ve engaged in mindful activities like playing piano, painting miniatures, or going for a long walk in the forest.

So, based on my own experience, I would say mindful activities are beneficial on an individual level, and if practiced by all individuals in a team, the outcomes can only be positive.
