Managing to involve special needs or disruptive students in the class flow would always be the highlight of the day. In one class I managed to combine one disruptive and one special need child (that were usually “enemies”).They were helping together to set up and did not pick on each other. Felt like a small victory!

During my contract teaching, I had a class where their spoken language for Tamil was not fluent as most of them were English speaking. They had a task (speech drama performance with complex Tamil dialogues) which they had to perform in front of parents. I practised with them for a span of 2 months. They performed so well and was very confident in speaking Tamil fluently. I believe as a teacher you must constantly work hard to make your students realise their potential.

I had the opportunity to work closely with parents in order to prepare my students for a Tamil competition. We took the time to train the boys consistently. 2 of my students managed to clinch 1st and 3rd standing in the competition. It felt like a personal victory when the results were announced.

In this instance, the kids were taking their NAPFA test and all of them were aiming below their potential. During the test, I motivated and assured them that they could do better. As a result, most of them exceeded their initial goals and were happy with their results.

My PE Teacher was exceptional when planning his lessons. He ensures his lessons were engaging and inclusive. He was very creative in his activities to continuously keep us engage throughout the period.

He also taught us life lessons which was essential as we were growing up to be young adults.

During my UCT period, I observed how my co-form teacher manage to handle a boy who has an anger management fighting in class and have a conversation with him to find out why he react this way. And guide him some ways how he can manage his anger in the future, through months of guidance. Boy’s attitude and behaviour in class improved and every teachers saw his improvement.

i was once struggling in a chemistry topic in secondary school and couldn’t seem to understand and grasp the concepts and was very frustrated. instead of putting me down and reprimanding me for handing in shoddy work, my teacher actually spent the time to consult w me and slowly went through the topic w me 1 on 1 , where he slowly went through step by step the ideas behind the topic and helped me enjoy the learning process instead of focusing too much on getting the concept itself. in the end , i was able to understand the topic easily after that. this inspired me in a way that made me see how helping someone see the joy of learning can go a long way

My pri sch form teacher continued to believe in her students, and never gave up on those who were rowdy and misbehaving. She patiently counselled them and was determined to bring out their fullest potential though they were often uncooperative.

I had a student in my form class who has little interest in learning, he is disruptive in class and does not hand in homework, sometimes he even gets into trouble for offences and this led to staying back during recess

While staying back in class during recess, more than doing reflections for the offences he committed, i will share with him how he is someone who has many friends and i observed that they are willing to listen to the things he speaks about, so i encouraged him that he has a potential to be a leader, don’t let that quality go to waste, be a role model, be someone who can influence people in a positive manner and that change comes from himself.

I was tasked to take on classes of one of my colleague as hes away for paternity leave. To guide and train them for their upcoming interclass game despite knowing theres special needs students and they need time to learn. They managed to clinch 2nd place despite getting last place last year.

This proved to me that anyone can perform if we put in the effort to guide them and motivate them so that we can bring the best in them.

As untrained music teacher, I taught the basics to learning a recorder to my classes of P3s. While teaching them the knowledge on recorder playing, our school have also provided external recorder scores for students to bring home. This motivates them to practice playing the instrument out of classroom time, and at their own time and pace. This promotes self learning and bring the value of live-long learning even after the lessons are conducted.

My secondary school CCA teachers did their best to bring the best out of my batchmates and I holistically and went above and beyond to discharge their duties. Before we stepped up to take on roles in our CCA, they organised a "leadership retreat" to prepare us for our roles ahead. They were also consistently giving us guidance on how we could improve during our term. Additionally, when one of the teachers noticed that some of us were struggling with Math, he voluntarily gave additional lessons to us.

A student who is not very inclined towards PE classes wrote to me on Teachers’ Day. She thanked me for helping her learn new skills. I realised that though some many not naturally enjoy sports, they will still benefit from the exposure to these skills as it teaches them to try things they’re not comfortable with.

I had a Literature teacher in JC who always made lessons fun and engaging. He would often decorate the lecture theatre according to the specific lesson in order to create a conducive atmosphere for our learning. He would also create very colourful slides which made us look forward to his lessons. He was able to pass on his passion for the subject to his students and made us enjoy learning Literature a lot more.

During secondary 3-4, I had a great form teacher who did not give up on me when my grades fell extremely behind the rest of the class during circuit breaker period and my conduct slipped. This teacher really strived to encourage me to believe that I could improve if I tried, and always took time out of her own busy schedule to meet me outside of classes.

During our P5 Camp, i noticed that 1 of my student wasn't participating in one of the high element activities. I spent 30 minutes understanding & encouraging my student. To embrace that fear that she has in her & assure her that i will be there throughout. I reminded her this phrased i learned from one of my teachers “Never try, you never know”. After much persuasion, she finally tried & she enjoyed the activity & thanked me for being there for her.

During my Teaching Internship, I taught geography to 2 classes for a term. Every lesson I emphasised a shift of mindset from the dread of "studying" to the joy of "learning". By pointing out the things that they learnt as well as showing how it can be relevant in their lives, they began to see the value in the subject and eventually grew to be more enthusiastic and proactive in class.

During TIP, a lot of parents called when the school went through the Russian-Ukraine War during CCE. Many parents was worried that getting students exposed to such events could negatively impact their growth. Teachers worked together to address their concerns and ensured that their concerns were taken care of.

As teachers, we will maintain am open communication channel and give updates to the parents regarding their child's well-being and learning. We treat the students like our own children and how we would like to develop and grow them and we share the same vision with the parents. Through this, parents are able to trust and support us and release their children into their destinies.

I recall times when this relationship that we have with parents has resulted in many favourable moments. For example, there was a P5 camp where there was a viral outbreak and because of how we maintained clear communication with the stakeholders, we were able to get their support as we navigated through the crisis together to control the outbreak and we placed the student's well-being as the main priority

During my contract teaching time. There was a boy from p2 boy in my class.When I started teaching him, his Chinese characters wouldn't fit into the boxes, so I had to keep telling him to erase and rewrite them. It took me two months before he finally got the hang of it, and his writing improved significantly. At the parent-teacher meeting, his parents thanked me profusely, which I felt was my duty as a teacher.

during my teaching internship, my class wrote individual notes of appreciation for me. Many of them mentioned how I made “math lessons engaging” or “made math interesting”

During my UCT stint, one of my P2 students initially didn't enjoy and struggled with fundamental skills in floorball. I would always check in with him, reminding him of the teaching cues that I have taught the class and provided him with constant motivation to persevere. He ended up enjoying floorball so much so that when he was in P3, he decided to join floorball as his CCA.

I had a student who does has issues paying attention in class. P2. Same observation made by his form teacher since P1. I talked to my ST, mentor and another senior teacher for advice on how to work with this student. I came up with a few suggestions. I then called the mother to speak to her. I tried my best to be empathetic as it would not be easy for a parent to absorb such comments about her child. I suggested what i could do and the mother also shared what was done at home. I tried to find a balance between these. We met again during MTP. Parent was very appreciate of what i did to help the student.

During my time in my contract school, I had the chance to interact with parents. It was a daunting experience at the start but it got better and better over time, I grew more confident. It was when I learned the most important thing parents are concerned about are their own children's well-being. All it matters is as long as parents understand and know that the intentions of the teachers are pure and ultimately, to help their children.
