The geographical features of our city, Athens, which is a mountainous peninsula, has ( obviously ) many mountains that serve as natural barriers to protect Athens from other city states and invaders. Being a peninsula, Athens had many ports that were used to explore other places and later, were used as trade spots. The boats also were used to set up colonies in the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions. Because of this, they became seafarers.

The patron god of Athen's, Athena affected their culture and job specialization. This is seen because Athena is the goddess of wisdom, thus making Athens stronger in terms of intelligence, mind, and wisdom. Also, they specialized on philosophy. They were also called the 'school of Greece' in one period.

Athen's rivals were mainly Sparta and Sparta's supporters. This was seen during the Pelopponesian war(s) when Sparta, with its supporters, waged war on Athens. The roots of this rivalry was fear of the growing Athenian power, so Sparta, and its supporters, thought that Athens may become too strong for them, which gave them the mentality that they should stop Athen's progress now.

The system of government of my city is democracy consisting of citizens with rights, citizens with no rights, and non-citizens. There was also a city magistrate that ruled the affairs of the country. The people that serve in this magistrate are males that are cast by lots and then elected. These usually serve only one-year terms, and because of this, most people ( males ) have at least served a government position at one point in their life. (BOULE). There were also people who created laws that were proposed to the people who made the final decisions on the passing of laws, military and foreign matters/laws.

Sources: http://www.history.com/topics/ancient-history/ancient-greece-democracy
Teachers recommended book.

Sparta is located in southern area of the Peloponnesian Peninsula. It is mountainous and has fertile lands.

Their patron god is Ares the god of war, which means they focus more on war and body strength. This led them to have a warrior culture, making them warriors.

Their rival at that time was Athens. At first, they were allies during the Greco-Persian Wars. After the Persian retreat, Athens started to become more powerful. This lead to about 3 decades of war. Being the warrior class, the Spartans emerged victorious.

Sparta had a highly unusual system of government kings ruled the city, but a 28-member 'council of elders' limited their powers. These men were recruited from the highest social class, the aristocratic Spartiates. Rather like medieval knights, the Spartiates were a class of military professionals who lived most of their lives in communal barracks. Rarely seeing their wives and children, their lands were farmed by slaves, leaving them free to pursue to the arts of war. Beneath this highest class was a middle class, called the Perioeci. Made up of a farmers and artisans who were the descendants of those peoples whom the Spartans had first conquered, the Perioeci paid taxes and could serve in the army, but had no real political rights. At the bottom were the helots: a slave class descended from those peoples who had resisted subjugation by Sparta. Because the helots were constantly rebelling, the Spartans attempted to control them by forming a secret society that annually murdered any helot suspected of encouraging subversion.

Sources: http://www.history.com/topics/ancient-history/peloponnesian-war
https://www.pbs.org/empires/thegreeks/background/8b_p1.html
https://prezi.com/hz5oawi5phle/geography-of-sparta/

The geographical features of the city-state of Corinth is that it is located on the isthmus which connects mainland Greece with the Peloponnese, surrounded by fertile plains and natural springs. Therefore, Corinth had a role as the centre of trade and the city had powerful naval fleet that participated in numerous Greek Wars.

The patron god of the city-state of Corinth is the sea god, Poseidon. This shaped their job specialization and culture because the citizens of Corinth engaged in trading and fishing. Moreover, the city of Corinth had one of the most powerful naval fleets during that era.
The city-state of Corinth's rival was Athens. Corinth was considered the rival city-state of Athens due to the fact that Corinth was naturally allied with Sparta, who is the main rival city-state of Athens.

Corinth's government switched from a tyranny to a monarchy to an oligarchy. Corinth was first brought under control by a well-ruling tyrant named Cypselus, who helped Corinth gain the reputation as a trade and cultural center. After Cypselus died, his son Periander took the throne and became king. As a twosome, Cypeselus and Periander helped stabilize trade, created a new coinage system, created a successful public works program, and provided peace and prosperity in order for Corinth to flourish. In fact, Periander was considered one of the Seven Wise Men of Greece, according to Corinthians.

Sources:
http://www.ancient.eu/corinth/
https://prezi.com/1u-8w6k2u3c2/corinth-god-and-goddesses/
http://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia/world/corinth-city-greece.html
https://sites.google.com/site/ancientgreececorinth/home/government
'

The geographical features of Corinth shape the society by allowing them to farm on the lands and use natural springs. Their geographical location is a centre of trade and was a naval fleet. Corinth's patron god is Poseidon, the sea god. In the name of Poseidon, they administered the Panhellic games at nearby Isthmian held every two years in the spring. The Panhellic games were famous for the chariot and horse races. This affected the job specialization of the people in Corinth by using the sea as their place of work by trading, fishing, etc.. The rival of Corinth is Athens, because Corinth was traditionally allied with Sparta. Athenian's help on the Corinthian's rebellion led to the Peloponesian war.

Sparta was a peninsula located in the peninsula, near the Eurotas River. Which provided a stable source of food and water. So,most of the food and hobbies they did aside from training would be fishing. Sparta's god is Ares,The god Of War. Due to the fact that Ares is our patron God. Sparta's society is more of a warrior class where both men and women were told to train more. Unlike its near neighbour Athens, boys where mostly drilled with gymnastics and military drills than spend time on learning music, arts and literature. Sparta's city states rival was Athens. The main reason was because Athens was prospering. They train, fight and die.

Sources: http://www.ancientgreece.com/s/PeloponnesianWar/
