Between February 12th and March 11th, 2004, about 4,000 same-sex couples got married due to Mayor Gavin Newsom’s direction for the city-country clerk to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples. On March 11th, California’s Supreme Court put a stop to issuing the licenses and later voided all of the licenses that has been issued.
