You have made every lessons so interesting, and inspired me to further study Chinese. It is really really sad that you are going to leave APU. I didn't have the chance but I want to tell you about my Taiwan trip in April 2023 before I came to APU!! It was a trip to study Buddhism in Taiwan with my mom, other people who signed up for the trip, and some monks who had studied Buddhism in Taiwan before and wanted to introduce it to us. We used the bus to travel around Taiwan from Taipei to Hualien, Tainan, Taichung, and back to Taipei. Taiwan was so pretty that me and my mom fell in love. I think everyone knows that Taipei is pretty already but I don't think people know that Hualien is pretty too. Hualien is actually very calming and peaceful and I felt like being surrounded by nature everywhere I looked. Taiwan has so many good vegetarian foods for me (unlike Japan), really really 好吃!! The most meaningful part is I got to visit The Buddhist Tzu Chi Charity Foundation. It consists of educational institutions like high schools and universities, a hospital, a media center, a recycling system with many centers across Taiwan, etc. I was very touched because the system is not capitalist at all but rather "for the society and the people": they built a big hospital in the center of Taipei and give free treatment to people with hardships; they built schools that teach students how to become good people in their families and for the society instead of trying to make money; they came up with the recycling system for the sake of the environment, then retired obaasan and ojiisan voluntarily come to those recycling centers every day to manually recycle the trash. I felt like everyone I met, they all lived for the others and tried to make the world a better place. My mom and I were so touched, hence my mom began telling me to consider studying in Taiwan.

I think after that I started to gain interest in studying Chinese ^^ I am not sure about my future career path yet but I am sure that I want to be a part of a meaningful, 'for the society' type of organization like Tzu Chi. I am thinking about studying graduate school in Taiwan like my mom's aspiration. If I really can make it, I will definitely tell Hong laoshi and we can see each other in Taiwan!!

I am really thankful for laoshi because you know, the first impression usually lasts for a long time, and thanks to you I have had a super good impression of Chinese right from the start. I am actually not as loud as I am usually in Chinese class, I can only do that because Xiao Nan is there with me and because Hong laoshi is always smiling and laughing too. I could only try to speak Chinese a lot and confidently like that because you have created a relaxed and fun environment for me. I could imagine myself being afraid of making wrong pronunciations and wouldn't try speaking Chinese at all if I were in a tense class. I want to keep studying Chinese because I really want to go to Taiwan but I know there will be a lot of hardships. I started learning English when I was a kid and Japanese when I was 13 so I grew up with them and learned them gradually for a long time, but even now I still have struggles with these languages, so I don't know how long and how much effort it is gonna take for me to study Chinese to the conversational level. I have this worry all the time, but laoshi always reminds me and the whole class to "go for what you guys want and believe in yourself". I will try my best to study Chinese!!!!!

I hope one day I can meet you again in Taiwan and I can speak to you in Chinese as well as Peimi 😸

Since I was little, I have been in love with Chinese films and movies. I used to watch 西游记 every year from 3 years old to 14 years old. I love the language so much that I planned to take Chinese as soon as I entered APU. But I could not take it until semester 3, which made me so saddd T-T A lot of people around me took Chinese and whenever I asked them about 老师 that I should take, I always received the same answer: Hung laoshi. But I had never expected that you would be such enthusiastic, energetic, and close to students. You made every assignment interesting, both film watching and commenting and video taking. You even joked with us, especially 小南. I really want to continue my Chinese study at APU with you so I was thinking about taking an exemption test to study Chinese 3 with you! I was so shocked when you said you would leave APU soon. I love you so much! Even so, I will continue studying Chinese, but I know that I will not be able to find such a wonderful teacher like you. My goal is to speak Chinese fluently and I also dream of continuing my studies in China or a Chinese-speaking country in the future. Hopefully, I can meet you again in the future!
