The machine gun was way more powerful than a regular gun. Doing more research I have found out that the machine gun could fire up to 450-600 bullets per minute. If somewhere to get up from the trenches they would be gone with the machine gun! It was no match for someone just getting up from the trenches. Also it was new technology it was pretty shocking to see how much a gun could improve so much to shoot so many rounds per minute.
