I think that the Christmas Truce was worthwhile due to the fact it allowed soldiers to enjoy the festive period in peace with other soldiers, furthermore the fighting was put behind them just for a day. Since the soldiers weren't with family it must have been a relief to spend Christmas peacefully exchanging gifts and conversation the opposing side. Other countries such as India, Belgium and the French troops were angry that the British were been so friendly to the Germans, however I believe it was an act of kindness.

The truce was good as it raised moral within the groups , they sung carols , traded gifts, Put up Christmas trees and even had small kick abouts however no official match was arranged. In my opinion the truce was good as it was needed for the moods of the soldiers as they where not around their families at christmas.

I think that the christmas truce of 1914 was worth while as they could stop fighting and unite for a day. However stricter orders were issused to end the truce and small truces couldnt happen again. Also it gave the soilders opportunity to open their presents and letters sent from familys and supporters.

The Christmas truce of 1914 showed that both the Germans and the English had not been entirely crushed and corrupted by the devastation and loss of the war. By sharing gifts and other treats they created the symbolic memory of peace between two sides witch will forever be remembered. Joining together for a football match among Christmas Day showed that they were no different from eachother. They actually got along quite well and in my opinion proved that there was no real war other than two power hungry men who wanted more.

Although the two sides were at war. They could still spend at least one day together to sing carols and enjoy listening to each other's stories. I feel like this is a very important thing to know about because it is a key event in history where British and german soldiers created peace.

I believe that war starts because of politicians therefore the soliders shouldnt be made to hate their opponents, this was the perfect opportunity for the soliders to celebrate together.

The Christmas truce was worth while as it was a symbolic moment of peace in an otherwise devastatingly violent war. It addition it was an opportunity to recover wounded soldiers, bury the dead and shore up damaged trenches. It also helped to maintain morale and bring some festive cheer to those at the front. Although the General didn't agree as the High Command was very angry and harsh punishment was delivered for any men caught refusing to fight. Overall it was a very different Christmas but a unique experience.

There was no football game. It was just a kick about that was over exagerated. The Christmas truce was over exagerated as there was always truces along the western front and so this would have been like any other it just happened to be on Christmas Day. I don't think that this truce would have boosted morale because they would have spoken to the Germans and then realised they were alright people and wouldn't have wanted to fight them. I think the fat that parcels and letters were sent from family and friends would have boosted morale though because hearing from their family would have made them want to fight for them.

On the other hand it made it harder for soldiers to fight as they felt as if they had a bond with the opposition.
Soldiers and the press found it fascinating that two nations where singing the same carol in the middle of the war although the high command had a very different opinion resulting in harsh punishments for anyone found refusing to fight

It also would have reminded them of home which would have made them happy. Both countries exchanged gifts and took photos. Dead and wounded soldiers were given a proper memorial. 460,000 parcels and 2.5 million letters were sent to British soldiers, Germans also received small gift boxes. This little gesture would have given soldiers hope.

In my opinion, the Christmas truce was important because even though some people didn't agree with it who weren't at the war , the soliders did agree that for one day they can stop war and being peace. Belgian , Indians and French troops who witnessed episodes of fraternisation were at the best puzzled and at worst very angry that the British troops were being friendly towards the Germans.

Both sides were clearly lacking in hope, and I feel that the football game was a good way to break tension and for both sides to relax. The build up to the truce on Christmas Eve was described as 'magical' by both sides. The Christmas truce is now a symbolic moment of peace.

This story has been exaggerated over the many years it has been told. There were some small scale kickabouts but many other activities too, some people just went out there to exchange gifts and get out of their normal routine. I also think the generals over reacted as they were mad and feared that they would now question the war, I think they would have just been grateful for the chance of a normal relaxed day,
