This theory plays somewhat of a big part on the development of a child and the recognition of their gender rule. Parents are the people who introduce us to these expectations. Girls are exposed to learning they are meant to be passive and dependent, the color pink is supposed to represent their gender, and anything they do not considered girly or ladylike, is unacceptable. And vice-versa for boys. They are exposed to violence, limited to expressing their emotions, and are expected to be an independent individual. However, Functionalism, is the relationship between parts of society. Compared to the other theory, this one focuses mainly on how one's contributions affect society. We are stuck between gender rules that are meant to keep us in place, and if one does not follow such rules, they are looked down upon as being weird and "out of control".
