To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day.

The goal is to strengthen measures aimed at protecting bees and other pollinators, which would significantly contribute to solving problems related to the global food supply and eliminate hunger in developing countries.

We all depend on pollinators and it is, therefore, crucial to monitor their decline and halt the loss of biodiversity.

• Nearly half of global youth surveyed (45%) say climate anxiety is affecting their daily lives: how they play, eat, study, and sleep.

• More than seven in ten (75%) believe 'the future is frightening' -- jumping to 81% of youth surveyed in Portugal and 92% in the Philippines.

• 58% said governments were “betraying me and/or future generations,” while 64% said their governments are not doing enough to avoid a climate catastrophe.

Second Hand September is a campaign that promotes donating, reusing, rewearing and restyling your clothes during September – and beyond!

Recycle Week has been running for 21 years, and as always, we will be working with businesses, sponsors, schools, local authorities and community groups to encourage citizens to recycle.

If you are a not-for profit organisation in Nottinghamshire (excluding the city of Nottingham) and have an idea or are already running a project that helps to inspire others to take a more conscious approach to waste, you can apply for a grant of up to £1000.

The D2N2 Hub brings together school staff, particularly those who lead on careers education, and provides them with additional support, resources and training for their schools to deliver “modern, 21^st century careers education for every child, no matter their background or circumstance”.

We provide child cycle training for children KS2 upwards. It is normally carried out through schools across the county, is usually free of charge and carried out by our trained cycle instructors.

The eligibility criteria for free milk entitlement is exactly the same as for free school meals for children aged 5 upwards.

A climate action plan should typically cover the following 4 areas, to align with DfE’s sustainability and climate change strategy:

Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually on 5 June since 1973, World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world.

Time is running out, and nature is in emergency mode. To keep global warming below 1.5°C this century, we must halve annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Without action, exposure to air pollution beyond safe guidelines will increase by 50 per cent within the decade and plastic waste flowing into aquatic ecosystems will nearly triple by 2040.

With separate versions for ages 7-11 and 11-14, the activities link to a number of curricular areas including English, science and geography.

It means Nottinghamshire is the first County in the country to see all its major local authority and education partners collaborate on a climate change reduction project in this way, providing an easy to use platform and incentives for all.

All the Councils across Notts including Ashfield District Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Gedling Borough Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council have come together to drive forward and fund the platform and app to residents.

The COVID-19 pandemic and climate change are affecting the wellbeing of UK young people in distinct ways, with implications for health service, policy, and research responses. There is a need for mental health practitioners, policy makers, and other societal actors to account for the complex relationship between climate agency, distress, and mental wellbeing in young people.

The ten-part podcast series, titled Buried, is hosted by environmental film-makers and investigative journalists Dan Ashby and Lucy Taylor, who found evidence including a key memo which was missing from a Freedom of Information Act release.

A nature podcast aimed at those who don’t normally listen to nature shows, this combines the joy of spending time in nature with the elephant in the room: that people’s access to nature and green spaces simply isn’t equal. It’s closely correlated with race, class and social status.

Over the course of the series, host Talia Randall explores both the visible and invisible barriers that lock people and communities out of green spaces and the discussion around tackling climate change. As part of that mission, she often passes the microphone to those whose voices aren’t usually heard, delivering their unique perspective on our uneven relationship to the natural world.

Zero Carbon Schools, run by Green Schools Project, is open for schools to register for the academic year 2024-25. The programme enables pupils to explore the causes and impacts of the climate crisis, investigate their schools’ carbon footprints, and design and lead projects to reduce them. It also includes teacher training and support to inform and involve the local community. 
 

Scrap wood will be supplied to schools, colleges, and community groups to be turned into planters.

We provide secondary school students with free training, resources, and support so they can teach their teachers about climate change and how easy climate education can be!

Students are given the resources and preparation time to deliver the teaching on topics that matter to them. Recommended student delivery of 2 x 30 min sessions or 1 x 1hr.

In December 2023, COP28 opened in Dubai with a long-awaited declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action, recognising the profound potential of food systems in responding to climate change.

Bingham Primary School is a fully electric and carbon neutral school. The £6.3million, 1FE (Form-Entry) primary school was designed and project managed by Arc Partnership, a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE, and built by Morgan Sindall Construction,

We had to write a proposal and make a short video as part of the bid. 

We have been awarded nearly £9500 to develop our garden which is amazing news.

The accreditation scheme celebrates schools that are helping pupils learn about global poverty and injustice, and the Christian responsibility to tackle it, as well as giving them the tools to play a confident part in creating a fairer world. Our world is increasingly connected and our hope is for our children to grow as responsible global citizens.

Thank you to all of he parents who came and supported the children with their learning linked to birds and bird watching. The children were so excited about what they were learning, and many have told us about looking for birds in their gardens and walks. We also know that some have been making bird feeders for their own gardens.

Also, a big thank you to Alice and Sarah from Go Active Falconry at Whitepost Farm, who brought the birds of prey into school in order to support the children's learning and interest.

Their most recent Jan 24: ofsted report quoted: Pupils are proud of the leadership responsibilities they undertake. They know these roles impact on the lives of those in school and beyond. Science ambassadors work hard to reduce plastic waste. As one pupil said, ‘We only have one world to live in and we don’t have a plan B, so we can’t waste this one.’ The school makes sure pupils are considerate of others who may be less fortunate. For example, following an assembly by a local homeless charity, pupils independently raised money for this charity.

The award is granted by UNICEF UK to schools that have fully embedded children’s rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos, as outlined in the RRSA Strands and Outcomes.

To achieve Gold: we were assessed by a UNICEF Professional Advisers who looked at our whole school’s rights respecting work and the impact that has been made through embedding children’s rights into school life.

• Children see and understand clear links to rights and with global events within their learning.

The fifty pledges at The Florence Nightingale Academy enable all our children to access wide variety of new and exciting experiences that will help them in future life. You might discover a new talent, learn new things and make new friends.

Achieving Pledges will help children reach their potential, increase self-esteem, raise confidence, increases expectations of ourselves and develops a positive outlook on life.

The school ran an ECO Shop at their school fair and raised funds that will contribute resources for their outdoor learning curriculum.

Long story short, a simple sketch for a pretty basic shelter in which students could engage with hands-on practical study towards a range of vocational BTEC units, is materialising as a concrete-floored, roomy 3 bay workspace that will, once finished, be powered, lit and heated.

Wildforce Wednesdays- The school open their doors to Grandparents and the wider community every wednesday morning to help maintain the garden and support loose parts and construction play in their platinum Opal play zones.

During the programme, your OPAL Mentor will support your school over an 18 month period to bring about an entire cultural and practical transformation of the way that play is thought about, planned for, resourced and staffed.

The school have really embedded an environmental and social action into their whole school approach as they recently twinned toilets and raised funds for a community toilets in Mosambique in honour of World Water Day

Arnold view Eco Committee are award winners and also enhance their learning environments with the most beautiful displays for their special environment awareness days that they celebrate. Like World Ocean Day.

Memorial Garden: Sadly, during the pandemic, many of our children were deeply affected with several of them suffering the loss of a loved one. As a staff, we thought hard about how to provide not only these children, but all of our pupils, with a place that they can go to reflect and spend a bit of downtime. Therefore, we began to regenerate the large area behind our main building in order to create a beautiful, bright yet peaceful Memorial Garden. This area is now a beautiful space which is used at playtimes and lunchtimes for those children needing that reflection time and is also timetabled during the school day as an outdoor learning space

The Eco-committee have detailed action plans for the year and measure their list of positive impact on the school environment and wider is growing. Community members are invited to each meeting they hold. Want to come along?

Our student programmes and Continued Professional Development (CPD) workshops are designed to foster the next generation of climate leaders. We help young people translate climate anxiety into action and enable educators to support them in their journey. The team deliver 90 min Student Workshops, professionals 120 min CPD training and a climate anxiety resource booklet for classroom activity.

People from more deprived areas are also disproportionately impacted by radiation, chemical, climate and environmental hazards through their exposure, direct impact on their health, and the exacerbation of existing health conditions​. Areas with high levels of deprivation typically have higher levels of air pollution than less deprived and less ethnically diverse areas.

Soaring rates of anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, Alzheimer's and motor neurone disease may be related to rising temperatures and other environmental changes, according to a new book.

t sets out new evidence gained over the last decade about the health harms of air pollution even at low concentrations. We now know that air pollution exposure in early life is linked to poor health later in life and that it impacts foetal development, cancer, heart disease, stroke, mental health conditions and dementia. 

Indoor air also poses a growing concern, requiring considerably more attention. People spend the majority of their time in buildings, but there are few standards for pollutant concentrations in indoor air. Poor ventilation, damp and mould and emissions from domestic heating, gas cooking and cleaning products can all contribute to poor health.

Put simply, there is no safe level of air pollution, and increasingly ambitious action needs to be taken to improve air quality across the country to reduce avoidable deaths and improve the health of our population.

The Clean Air Clinics profiled stand as a testament to what is possible when we look beyond symptoms to the root causes of illness. They provide compelling evidence that clinicians are both willing and well placed to address the environmental determinants of health. The report also underscores the urgent need for systems, funding and policies that empower us to act effectively on behalf of the children and families we serve.

Created with Ocado and WRAP, these are step-by-step KS1 & KS2 lessons with presentations and activities linked to the English, Scottish and Welsh curricula and complete with learning objectives and outcomes.

The lessons focus on the different ways children and young people might feel about, and positively respond to, climate change.

In key stage 2, pupils learn how connecting with nature can support wellbeing (lesson 1), before moving on to explore ways people can help to look after the environment (lesson 2), and how the community can work together to look after nature (lesson 3).

 In key stage 3, pupils develop their understanding of the benefits of nature for wellbeing and mental health, and learn other strategies that can help with challenging feelings about climate change (lesson 1). Finally, they explore how people’s views about climate change can be influenced (including online) and learn how to engage respectfully with different perspectives (lesson 2).

Open to schools and early years settings in England, Scotland and Wales, this outdoor learning grant fund has four elements — an outdoor learning training course for your staff, a school grounds climate survey, a Climate Curriculum Kit (valued at £150) and £500 of outdoor equipment chosen from a catalogue of over 100 items.

We hope this guidance supports the development of your curriculum and practice for climate change education in your setting.

The lessons and accompanying resources will support pupils to appreciate and value the world around them and recognise that everyone can help take care of animals and the environment, even with the smallest and most basic of actions. They also provide an introduction to careers that help to protect the environment — helping to challenge early assumptions and gendered stereotypes about careers, including in STEM areas.

Schools can play an important part in helping students build resilience to consumption pressures and modelling low-consumption lifestyles.

Global Action Plan designed the National Lottery-funded Good Life Schools programme as a positive response to the problem of excessive consumption, which is driving climate breakdown and destroying habitats.

Today, we offer grant funding through our Connecting Communities scheme and match the funds raised by Morrisons colleagues for the charities close to their hearts.

Our thriving vegetable gardens offer students the opportunity to explore innovative gardening methods, such as “No Dig Gardening,” and discover how companion planting can protect our crops from pests and diseases. We are also fortunate to have a small orchard, which provides a bountiful harvest each year. The fruits are shared with the Tuxford community and even given out during our Year 6 open evening!

The space is dedicated in memorandum of a long term member of staff who inspired this work.
