1. Merchants sold their goods that they traded to there villages and towns ("Middle Ages."). From trading, they gained coal, wool, lumber, wine, oil, and salt. They traded iron, copper, lead, fabric, and other luxurious items (Langley, 34). The merchant's boat and walked on land to trade. They created the Hanseatic league. The Hanseatic league was with the trading towns in the North Sea and Baltic coast united. They were helping each other fight against pirates and bandits to gain exclusive control of forgiven trade (Langley, 34). This became very powerful and helped trade grown in the middle ages ("Middle Ages.").

2. When merchants traded and soled they needed something to count and keep their money in ("Middle Ages."). The merchants kept a small amount of money in there money boxes. This box was circular and kept the coins. Merchants also used a wooden calculator. Many people could not read and write so the wooden calculator helped with this. The traders would add their cash on to columns. When they finished the column with usually around 10 coins they would start a new column. This allowed them to keep track of there money and stay organized
( Langley, 34).

3. As the trade grew in Europe so did the towns. At first, they were apart of lords, kings, and domains but then they became we("Middle Ages."). Most towns elected mayors and a local council. They became very wealthy and powerful. With that much power from trade. As the trade grew more complex paperwork was needed, so merchants hired a scribe to help with bill letters and any other main paperwork. The towns became free with power to make own laws, to form trade guilds and to raise taxes. The people became free citizens or burgesses (Langley, ). The trade helped the towns grow so big with many building they needed a strong wall around. This allowed them to keep out villains but allow the merchants to enter through a gate. This gate opened at dawn and closed at dusk. In big trade towns, they had street signs hanging showing their symbol of trade (Langley). As trade grew it helped the store owners grow and the towns as well ("Middle Ages.").
