An identity package is a collection of graphics that represent a company. Often times, these graphics are used for marketing, and they represent the brand's identity--hence why the term is "identity package". An identity package may include logos, business cards, and social media graphics, all of which help the company stand out to the general population.

Why is brand identity important?

Brand identity is important because it is a representation of the company. When advertising, a company must stand out against their competitors, and without a strong identity--something that makes them unique or likable--they may not achieve popularity. Furthermore, when a person sees a product, they usually link it to the brand. If the product works well or makes a good impression, the customer will most likely recommend the brand or continue to buy from it. For example, when people see Hello Kitty, they automatically think of Sanrio.

What is a brand vs a logo?

A logo is one part of a company's overall brand identity. In simple terms, a logo is the face of a company, but in the form of a graphic. When one sees a logo, they will start to think of the brand as a whole. It is the first puzzle piece of creating a strong brand identity, as a unique logo will stand out against the crowd. Other graphics or forms of marketing are branches coming out of the root, which is a logo. The brand as a whole is what a company sells and pursues.

Sanrio's identity package mainly focuses on their mascots, as shown in the background image.
Their logo is minimalistic, yet playful, with a small heart replacing the letter, "o" at the end. Though the Sanrio logo is one of a kind, their most iconic mascot is Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty appears in most of Sanrio's marketing strategies and promotional tools.
Sanrio always uses a variety of colors in their graphics, and their aim is to make the consumer feel happy and comforted.
