The slave holders and masters were training them to not be human beings by taking away their rights to read and make decisions. They even made them live in harsh conditions.

Evidence that we can show that slaves where human is that the slaves can talk, walk, run , drink and eat food like a human not only that , they determined if you were a slave by skin color basically meaning they were a human it just they were a different color. Another way of them being human is also them showing emotions on things that they were sensitive about or even happy about. Such as when they got a new overseer most slaves like him because they referred to him as the good overseer because he hated whipping them .

Slaves were definitely humans many of us don't really need a book written by a former slave to know that but the book shows us the slaves are human by pointing out that slaves had emotions and feeling for each other and in general for example Aunt Hester's feelings for Loyd's Ned and he also use the words warm red blood even though most animals bleed there was something about the fact that he had to point out that she bled while being whipped that made her seem so human.

They were human due to the fact that they feel emotions, they want to seek knowledge, they can tell the difference between right and wrong. They want to love and be loved by other people and they wanted to live life like the rest of the people. The slaves are human because they want/need things to survive. People need people without social interaction then they wouldn't have gotten far. They want to read and write...they even want to know their own names.
