What does it mean to be a global citizen

One could easily argue that every person living on this globe is a global citizen, but to be a bit more specific I would say that to be a global citizen you should be a part of the global discussion. If you are a international-minded person that is taking part in the global discussion you should use what you learn there to help you in choosing your action. If you do that and try to act in a way that has positive influence/consequence on people around you, locally and globally, I would say that you are on truly becoming a global citizen.

How do school today prepare students for global citizenship within biology and other group 4 subjects

I look at the group 4 subjects as already having a global language. By that i mean that science is universal for all people in all countries. At the school I worked we took our students to CERN. There we could show them both what was happening in the LHC, but also all the different people from different countries working together on this enormous project. This showed them a true global effort to reach a goal, which again showed them how dependent scientist are of other scientists around the world.

As stated earlier. Science is a global area with a global language. There are several people/communities that my topics has benefited from. Examples are Darwin (english), algebra (arabs), genetics (austria) and so on. The list goes on forever. Science wouldn't have been where it is today if it wasn't for the global effort.
