Daniel is a biblical character mentioned in the Old Testament, and who has a book that bears his name. Who was Daniel?
Firstly we need to know that there are more than one Daniel mentioned in the Bible. Before we talk about the Prophet Daniel, we will get to know the other characters with the same name:

Daniel son of David, also called Kilab, was the second son of King David and Abigail. He was older than his brothers Absalom and Adonijah, but nothing else is recorded about him (1Ch 3:1).
Daniel, a descendant of Ithamar and who accompanied Ezra (Ezra 8:2), was also one of the signatories of the Covenant (Neh 10:1).
In the book of the Prophet Ezekiel there are references to a character named Daniel. This Daniel is cited as someone very righteous and exceptionally wise (Ez 28:3). Furthermore, the Daniel mentioned in Ezekiel is compared to Noah and Job, as examples of justice. The identity of this character has been hotly debated over the years. Some interpreters argue that this is the Prophet Daniel, a contemporary of Ezekiel and who was in Babylonian exile. Others argue that this character is not the well-known biblical prophet, based on the difference in spelling of the name in Hebrew, something like Dan’el instead of Dani’el. According to this suggestion, the Daniel cited in the book of Ezekiel could be a reference to a heroic character mentioned in an ancient Ugaritic text. This character was a king, known for being an extremely fair ruler, who cared about widows and orphans. If in this case, Daniel in the book of Ezekiel is indeed a reference to this king, then in addition to being known for his personal integrity, he had in common with Noah and Job the fact that he was not an Israelite.
