To do this she would mainly smuggle them into orphanages, convents, schools, hospitals, and private schools. 
Irena was a hero to many. There are many important dates of her rescue. This includes, October 20, 1943, where Irena was placed in a notorious Piawiak prison. July 24, 2003 where Irena was announced the winner of the John Karski award for Valor and Courage. And finally, October 23, 2003, where the award ceremony was held in Washington D.C.
Irena also worked with a group called the "Zegota." This group would smuggle children in things like potato sacks, or even coffins. Irena was in charge of the Children's Division.

After hearing about this project, Irena gave many thanks to to these students.
