His songs consisted of a balanced mix between rock music and country music. Lewis' piano playing techniques were considered to be violent, as he would often kick the piano bench across the room and aggressively bang the keys on the pianos. This, however, didn't stop the younger audience from jamming out along to his barbaric rock performance. A scandal was revealed to the public that his wife was 14 years old and a cousin. Although he was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, his visit to Memphis at the age of 13 inspired him to enter the music industry. Phillips discovered Elvis in 1950. Sam Phillips paired Elvis with Scotty Moore and Bill Black to see who would stay. He started out in his career in the "country regional scene". Elvis' songs that we rock out to today were not that appreciated in their prime. White America did not like that a white artist was doing things that normally black artists did. He was often filmed from the waist up, as his famous hip thrusts were considered "provocative" and parents discouraged Elvis and the TV company for allowing him to dance in such a way on live television. Despite the hatred that was targeted towards Elvis, he remained popular as his music consisted of a combination with blues, country, and pop. Sam sold his contract with Elvis for $35,000 to RCA as an attempt to give Elvis' career the fame and success Sun Records couldn't give him, due to being a small company. The record label had a reputation of treating local artists with honesty and respect. The record label had no limitations when it came to style, due to the plethora of music genres that lived in Memphis. Known for his deep and distinctive voice, Cash sold over 90 million albums in his approximate 50-year career. Later in his career, his songs followed the lyrical themes of sorrow, redemption, and moral tribulation. Cash's first recordings at Sun Records were "Hey Porter" and "Cry Cry Cry", both released in 1955. In 1957, Johnny Cash became Sun's first artist to release a long-playing album. Sam Phillips signed him and his band to Sun Records after he auditioned in 1954. Perkin's first single, "Movie Magg", was released shortly after. His sound carried a lot of guitar playing by yours truly. Disaster struck Perkins and his brother during the peak of their career, as both brothers got into a serious car accident resulting in severe injuries. His brother got the worst of the event, as he ended up with a permanent brain tumor. Devastated, Perkins began drinking and felt out of place.
