In this test there are 4 diffeent sections on different aspects of British culture. The film must score at least 18/30 to be classed as a British film. A point or more will be scored for meeting the criteria. Film companies submit thir application to the BFI with evidence, for example they will send a recce or other pre production documents. Applicants can apply for the interim certification at any point before or during production. Interim certification is essential if the companies want to claim film tax relief during production.

Eddie Redmayne also attended University of Cambridge like Stephen Hawking. He was chosen for the role in this film because he as a good reputation in films and has similarities to Stephen Hawking.  His co-star, Felicity Jones, is a British actress who was born in Birmingham. She was chosen to play the role of Stephen's wife, Jane Hawking, because she has a good reputation in other films.  The clothing that they wear is typically what would've been worn in Britain in the 1960s, which is when the film is set. 'Jane Hawking' in the film tends to wear skirts or dresses that go below the knee, which was the fashion and also shows her upbringing as she isnt wearing short skirts or dresses. 
Stephen Hawking tends to wear shirts (sometimes with a tie) which gives the impression straight away without knowing anything about him that he is smart and comes from a good income home. The film is set in various places in Britain mainly focusing on London, such as Cambridge University, which is one of the most famous universities in the country. This also adds British heritage to the film becuase Cambridge University was founded in 1209. The props used in the film, such as the wheelchairs, were made to look like the ones that Stephen Hawking used so that the story could be as close to the truth as possible. The clothing was also made to look like the clothing that Stephen and Jane wore, for example their wedding clothes. The director of the film, James Marsh, is British as he was born in Cornwall. The film uses many different shots and camera angles, such as long shots when Stephen is walking so that the audience can see the struggle it was for him. Close ups were also used to focus on the facial expressions from the actors. A lot of 2 shots were used to show the relationships between the characters, such as Stephen and Jane when they are at the party. 
To prepare for The Theory of Everything the crew interviewed the family so that they could created the film as close as possible to the truth. Photos were also created to look like the ones of Stephen and Jane, for example the wedding photos. The actors also did lots of research and met with the family so that they could understand more about the character that they was playing and portray them better. Green screens were also used in the making of the film, they were used to add backgrounds to the car scene and to add people into some scenes such as when Stephen was at the opera. 
Part of the marketing for The Theory of Everything involved interviews with the main actors such as Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. Eddie Redmayne's interviews were especially popular because he was the main focus of the film and is very popular with the audience as he already has a fan base. Stephen Hawking was also interviewed about the film and he said that the film reflected the truth about his life and he was impressed with the way that Eddie portrayed him. The Theory of Everything promoted the film by using social media, such as Facebook pop up adds and Twitter accounts from the actors. Trailers and billboards were also used to promote the film. The billboards would've been placed in busy areas such as in city centers and main roads. Trailers would've been shown on YouTube and on TV and in cinemas before the film starts.  Adverts would've also been placed on the side of buses, these buses go through town centers and around housing estates. The story also made the film popular because many people know who Stephen Hawking, as he is one of the most famous scientists alive, however, not many people know about his life. This would make people want to watch the film so that they can know about his life and personality rather than is scientific work. This film is unique because this is the first major film about Stephen's life and this is what encouraged people to watch it because they wanted to know about his illness and his family. 
The film was distributed all around the world but mainly in the UK, EEA States and the United States. The film was released in the UK on the 1st January 2015. The film was then released on DVD and can be watched online. 
The film appeals to a UK  audience because it was filmed in the UK, the actors are British and it focuses on a UK story. The film involves British heritage and tells the story of a British scientist suffering from motor neurone disease, because the film involves British heritage, british locations and a British story then it appeals to a UK audience. 
The film lives up to expectations in relation to the style and content of the film. Animal Rights - In our film we will have a scene where the man (who is the oddity/zombie in our film) is eating/destroying an animal, possibly a dog. Some viewers could find this distressing to watch and may wonder about the welfare of the animal, therefore we will ensure that the animal is treated fairly and will not be harmed in any way.
Parenthood - The boy in the film spends most of his time on his own as his parents are always out. We will try not to cause offence to any parents who do leave their children at home when they are working or cause any controversy over why we chose him to be at home alone.
Safety - In our film there will be fight scenes. We will ensure that no harm is done to any of the actors and crew. We will also make sure that there is a first aider on set at all times.
Government Corruption - Our film will involve the government. We will make sure we don't offend anyone by including false information or portraying the government in a certain way.
Medical - Our film will involve medical themes, therefore we will ensure that our statements are correct and that we don't give false information or symptoms.

Production Process for The Woman in Black 2: 
The film was directed by Tom Harper and was produced by Simon Oakes, Richard Jackson, Ben Holden, Tobin Armburst. Susan Hill created the story.
The production companies included in the making of the film was Hammer Productions, Entertainment One and Exclusive Media. 
The film was distributed by Relativity Media and was released on the 2nd January 2015.
The filming locations for The Woman in Black 2 included Kings Cross Station,Old Royal Naval College, Greenwitch, London.

Advertising Campaign - January
The premier was in February and the film was released on the 15th of February. They released adverts after the film was released to get people to go and watch it at the cinema.
The Teaser Campaign involved a competition on YouTube where fans could win prizes such as Merchandise which promoted the film even further. The Main Campaign included posters being placed in busy areas such as shopping centres, in cinemas and on public transport. 
The Advertising Campaign included posters and trailers. Social Media was also used such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. 
Twitter - Twitter was used in their marketing as hashtags were used as well as the actors tweeting about the lead up to the film, which drew in fans of the actors to watch the film. The film would've also had its own page where people could keep up to date with the film and its new photos and clips.
YouTube - YouTube was used in their marketing as trailers and clips were uploaded to excite the existing fans and bring in new fans. Clips such as People dressing up as The Woman in Black and pranking people would've also added to the popularity of the film even though the videos may not have had anything to do with the production company and marketing team. 
Facebook - Facebook was used in the marketing by having an official page for the film that people could follow and get the latest information and teasers about the film. 
The film was also promoted on other platforms such as Print; Bus stops, magazines, newspapers, posters. It was also promoted on radio and TV. 

In the late 1960s the studio found it hard to maintain its place in the market. The company brought in new directors and writers. The company reach all age ranges with their marketing schemes by using different platforms to promote to different ages.
