All of these items are provided from our corporate. we have a internal website where we can enter tickets for help when any of the items above break.

As far as technology for my career goes I am surrounded by it. I do have several certifications that I must keep current. I do not use a lot of software that is out of the ordinary. I will try to explain some of the technology that we use here in the FAA as Airway Transportation System Specialist.

My line of work has to do with Maintaining electronics for controlling air traffic while in the air and while on the ground.

To communicate verbally with air planes Air Traffic Controllers use VHF radios to transmit and receive the communications.

We use RADARS to detect where the Air Planes are located. The RADAR sends out a signal and when the signal hits the airplane it is bounced back to the RADAR and from that it can tell how far out and location of the target is at that particular time. That information is transferred to a RADAR display system for the Air Traffic Controllers to use.

We use Navigational Aids to help airplane be able to navigate and land with or without Air Traffic Controllers assistance. Some of our navigational aids consist of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR), Automatic dependent surveillance—broadcast (ADS–B), and Lighted Navigational aids such as Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI), and Visual Approach Slope Indicators (VASI).

All of these different systems require certifications by law. To get certified to be able to work on any of these systems you have to pass written exams, then do OJT, and then pass proficiency exam with a certified examiner from a location other then yours.

To do actual work on this equipment we will use a number of different test equipment. I will list a some because there is just to many to list them all.

I use almost everyday, a multi-meter. I can use a multi-meter to check Volts in AC/DC, the resistance and the amperage in an electrical circuit. I will use Transmission test set to send test radio equipment. I will use an oscilloscope to get a visual of how an electrical signal or a radio signal looks.

The most important technology I use is my safety equipment when measuring high voltage. The Safety Technology is getting better and evolving everyday. I use electrical safety gloves and clothes all the time. Years ago the technology wasn't there to make the safety items feasible to use. Mostly they were to big and bulky to work in so nobody wore there safety gear. Now they are able to make out of materials that are almost as comfortable as everyday clothes.

Some of the software we use is for helping use keep maintenance logs. We use a little bit of CAD drawing software and just your typical software on most computers for emailing and research capabilities.

I am surrounded by many forms of technology at my job. Some of it is really new and cutting edge and some of it has been around for 40 years. It all serves a purpose whether it is a backup system or a main use system for controlling Air Traffic.

If you need more details on topics let me know. There is so much here I can only scrape the surface of the technology for controlling air traffic.

We use HP hardware for our desktop computers, laptops, bedside, and blood transfusion computers. The software we use is Citrix. The monitors that are in each patients room is Philips. Each monitor is tied to group monitoring at the nurses station, where we are able to monitor vital signs at the nurses station. Within Citrix we have the ability to transfer vital signs from the patient monitor into our charting system: SCM by simply double clicking on the time column we wish to have transferred into the patients chart. At the Charge nurse station we have an additional HP monitor that allows us to track patients who are in the waiting room.
In addition, we use Zoll monitors as our defibrillators and external pace makers. The Zoll does not have capability to cross over to SCM, but does allow for printing of cardiac strips directly from the monitor. We also use EKG machines to capture a persons heart rhythm. Each EKG is automatically crossed over to the patients account, of there is an order from the physician on the patient account. We remove medication from the Pyxis. We have to use a sign on and our finger print to assess the pyxis. This machine is connected to a HP monitor that allows us to see each patient, and their medication order.
I am unaware of the certification for the software. As, technology is a little beyond me!

One of the programs is quite complicated and can be used for many functions but we provide a training program so that you can become familiar with how to navigate within the software. Most companies provide system training for their new hires.

The software I use daily includes a program called ICIMS. It is an applicant tracking program that allows me to see all of the candidates that have applied for positions with Smithfield. It allows me to keep track of where they are in the process, communicate with both the candidate and the manager and in the end move them into our HRIS system.
