What do I think about Socrates teaching style?

Socrates teaching style is ideal for the classroom. Instead of memorizing repetitive information, one can think on their own and conclude their own truths. A teacher using this method leads the student to information and does not flat out tell them. This method requires some curiosity and intuition from the student.

Yes, if God truly exists, then He must be good. He may put us in negative circumstances or create less than ideal situations. But, these situations are meant to strengthen ones self. God gives us the good and bad to keep us humble.

allegory of the cave

If I were a prisoner chained in the cave, totally unaware of the outside world, I would want to make an ascent to the outer world where truth lies. It is easy to make this assumption based on the concept of modern "chains" of knowledge. If I were presented with the option to become freed from the shadows of reality and become enlightened with truth, I would spring for the opportunity with no regret.

Having won my freedom, there is no chance I could recede back in the cave without being absolutely miserable. The real world of colorful truth has already entered my consciousness of thought. Having these new thoughts, all previous thoughts would be dwarfed in comparison to the new world. With fully opened eyes I could finally see the world for what it is instead of the projections of it. The shadows would become a distant memory of my past. The new colors and images would become a new realm of possibilities that entice my every thought.

In today’s modern state, the allegory of the cave's darkness contrasted with the brightness of the real world, reminds me of the ignorance of mankind. Our leaders preach fairness and equality while at the same time creating laws which hinder these principles. Those who lie in the "cave" of modernity are citizens who believe they are being looked after in their best interest. But, these individuals are only seeing the shadows of the truth. The truth being the fact that our modern leaders look out for themselves or those who they directly benefit from.

Genesis and Exodus

1. The nature of evil, as depicted in this section arises from the Lords total authority over the actions of those on earth. He commands Abraham to do the unspeakable act of sacrificing his only son Isaac. Abraham abides by God’s word and is willing to sacrifice his son. One see’s the complete fear which is instilled in His followers. This fear is then rewarded when God allows Abraham to sacrifice a ram instead. So, one sees the nature of evil in God, but also the nature of good.

2. In line 14, the quote “God said to Moses, “ I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’””, personifies God.He gives Moses the confidence to speak to the Pharaoh of Egypt by telling him he will perform wonders to the people of Egypt. One sees the helpfulness of god, along with the boosted confidence of Moses, only possible through God.

Matthew

1. The human details which stand out are the account of Jesus’ genealogy. These provide a human aspect of Jesus.
2. The most notable miracle in Matthew is the fact that Jesus was born to Mary. She was a virgin, and the baby was given to her through the Holy Spirit. This miracle is entwined with human details because in the end, Joseph accepts Jesus as his child.

3. The one which first caught my attention was the one of Moses holding up the Ten Commandments. He is dressed in flowing robes and being held up by people under him.
4. Leading up to Jesus’ ministry, Jesus is led to the desert by the Spirit to fast for forty days and forty nights. While he is there the Devil tempts him with kingdoms and splendor.
5. Jesus gives a long, thought provoking list of those who are blessed, Some of these are: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”, and “Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”. Jesus teaches to love your enemy. If one smacks you on the cheek, turn the other cheek for them to smack.
6. The parable of the Wheat and tares. This parable explains how there are good seeds, and they are sown by the Son of Man. The field in which they are sown is the world. The good seeds are the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the evil one, sown by the devil. When harvest time comes, the good seeds will be rewarded with Heaven, while the bad seeds are punished with Hell.
7. Jesus warns his disciples that others will come and try to deceive them. But they should not believe these false prophets, for they are not true. Jesus is the one true Messiah.

Nostra Aetate

When The Catholic Church published Nostra Aetate during a century filled with religious and ethnic persecution/genocide, it was published under the pretense of accepting a variety of different faiths and focusing on the positive aspects of these religions rather than their differing traits. This marks a divergence in the common preconception that the Catholic Church wholeheartedly rejects all other faiths. However, based on the context of this document, one can reasonably come to the conclusion that this was published as a result of the atrocities based on religion and race, committed during the first half of the 20th century. While these documents are likely written with genuine care, the context certainly brings up question about whether or not the Church was simply trying to absolve themselves of any possible correlation to religious persecution committed in the past.
