No, because Otis may be breaking the law, but that's the past, not the future or the present. Otis says, "I ain't a dangerous man," and Opal trusts him. Also, Otis gets a job and does it responsibly. He lets Opal have a job and make money (He allows the animals to get out of their cages, too.

Opal learns that her dad also cares for Winn-Dixie and his wife/Opal's mama. In the beginning of the story Opal's dad is uninterested in the world,like a turtle hiding in it's shell, but now that they have Winn-Dixie he is more open to the world.

You can decide whether you give a person a second chance by judging what they did to make up for their mistakes. Also, Gloria Dump tells Opal to judge Otis for what he is doing in the present and not in the past. Gloria Dump said, "Don't judge Otis too hard for going to jail." I think he should get a second chance because he was protesting to the cops and hit one of them, but he made up and never played his guitar in the streets again.

No I don't think he should be judged because he did not play music for the money.He just wanted someone to listen to him and he just wanted to play so he hit the cop but now he learned from his past and only does it for the pets.

We think Otis should not be judged because he is trustworthy because he is able to run a shop. In the book he was good with pets and maybe that's how he got his job. Also, it said I'm lonely but I ain't dangerous .
