I learned that Antarctica, the southernmost continent and site of the South Pole, is a virtually uninhabited, ice-covered landmass. Most cruises to the continent visit the Antarctic Peninsula, which stretches toward South America. It’s known for the Lemaire Channel and Paradise Harbor, striking, iceberg-flanked passageways, and Port Lockroy, a former British research station turned museum. The peninsula’s isolated terrain also shelters rich wildlife, including many penguins.

I noticed that Coral Reefs build in a very specific way in order to grow into beautiful reefs. I wonder how something so small can build a giant reef? I learned that the coral takes calcium from the algae that lives inside of it and the surrounding seawater to produce calcium carbonate, otherwise known as limestone to build its reef skeleton.
