The Polynesians used the bracken fern as a food
source. They used bracken fern to catch freshwater crayfish by making the
bracken fern sink to the bottom of the lake. At times they also tied the
bracken fern to a post in the water. They would then pull up and shake the
bracken fern that was left for a period of time in the lake. This would allow
them to collect the crayfish. This information was recorded by Maggie Papakura
who witnessed the Polynesian culture.

The Haka intends to intimidate the opponent. This particular dance was originally used by warriors before a battle as source B has shown. The evidence displays how The Haka was significant and sacred to the Maori culture. This source also portrays the ancient tradition of The Haka and how the event took place.

The haka is a type of ancient Maori ceremonial war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. The first use of the haka in the natural world was attributed to the chief Tinirau and some of his womenfolk. As seen in SOURCE B haka is a fierce display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Overtime, the haka evolved and it came to be used for more than just battles. It became a way for communities to come together and it was a symbol for community and strength. They believed that they were calling upon the god war to help them. The haka gave them courage and strength.

The Haka is a traditional war cry from the Maori
people performed by a group. As we can see in source B, a group has set up a
traditional act holding up traditional weapons of wood and stone and wearing ceremonial clothing chanting for good
luck. This shows their appeal to their gods. In addition to my point Haka to Maori
people shows their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition.
But Haka can also be performed for other various things like ceremonies special
occasions and funerals. These days Haka is performed before international
matches because of this the Haka is more widely known around the world. To
conclude with, The Haka is a
traditional genre of the Maori dance.

To get the tattoos on his face the priests would combine ink and herbs, and grabbed a shark tooth and banged the shark tooth on to his face. When this was finished he received a taiaha (spear with moa feathers), it would've been given to Tamaiti during this transaction (SOURCE A). Nene wears a kahu kiwi, a fine cloak covered in kiwi feathers, (as shown in sources A) and an earring of green stone. Both of these are treasures. He is holding a hand weapon known as a tewhatewha, which has feathers adorning its blade and a finely carved hand grip with an abalone, this showing utterly over his nation and represents his position in the Maori structure, as Nene is the supreme chief of the Maori he would be respected by his people. This is important to encounter, If Nene was not a successful leader, and he would pass the position to the next heir.

Tamati Waka Nene was now became the highest ranking chief among his own people and one of the three primary chiefs of the area. At baptism, he added "Tāmati Wāka" (Thomas Walker) to his name.

In Source A the chief is seen to look like he’s high up in the mountains and that represents that he’s powerful than others. He’s also seen to be holding a stick also known as a Taiahaias. The significance of that stick is the feathers of a Moa. The tattoo on the chief’s face shows how brave he was to get a tattoo on his face. The tattoo also signifies how much power he has as a supreme chief. The Maori belief is that when getting a tattoo for the supreme chief, it has to be used with a shark tooth, herbs and ink. The shark tooth represents the water, the herbs represents the land and the ink represents the animal/sacrifice to the gods.

Tamati Waka Nene had power and control in the tribe.
