It was an eye-opener to hear from the different Government departments and organisations to see the role they play in governing a nation, especially during a disaster.

 •More affordable and better healthcare for our migrant workers.
 In my country, migrant workers have to pay international fees in a public hospital. During my time working in a sub-divisional hospital, I noticed that their employers were reluctant to bring them for consultation and when they did they were quite sick. Because of these relatively higher fees, some employers also took them to pharmacies for treatment rather than bringing them to the hospital.
 I will discuss this with my colleagues and we will propose to our government to reduce the price or possibly provide free medical treatment for them.

2. How important information sharing towards the public is for health ministries! Bombarding your population with key messages. Public distrust only builds when you get the initial information out wrong. 
3. Factoring in the vulnerable, often less considered population groups in overall planning!

- Its about perspective (whether you see the cat going up or down) and there are 4 ways to look at a situation.
- Volunteer organizations are equally important in the whole of nation approach (Together we can overcome) and makes everyone feel they are contributing to the solution.
- Crisis communication is tough but its important to have a structure and the public are after two things during a crisis - protection and the truth. 

Loved the fact that during the learning it was evident that despite being from different parts of the world our approach was somewhat similar and we all had challenges (some more than others) but these provided opportunities to learn from.

1. The importance of long-term and sustainable planning - I believe my country can benefit from looking at a wider strategic period. It was impressive to note that Singapore is reaping the benefit of plans made over 20 years ago today and they are making plans for the next 50-100 years.

2. The effectiveness of the whole-government approach. Persons are aware of the unifying goals and their roles in the achievement of the same at every level of government. This aids in the successive implementation of vision and strategies of the country. My country can benefit from a whole government approach, as an actively implemented way of business (not just on paper).

3. The benefits of patriotism, collectivism and integrity in the success of a national community - all the presenters pointed to a shared understanding of citizens on the importance of hard work and buy-in to the direction for development laid out by the country. These values have proven to be beneficial to the people of Singapore as their government has been able to in turn provide total care for its citizens.  This approach, if applied in my country will improve compliance with policies, boost productivity and promote successful follow through on strategic plans.

Whole of government/ whole of society approach with coordination at all levels works to protect people and livelihoods, especially the most vulnerable. This ensures no one is left behind and builds capacity for resilience.
Planning with a proactive approach must be done in the face of the unknown - scenario planning essential for long term survival and development of a country. 1.  Along the lines of...If there's a will, there's a way/If life gives you lemons, make some (good) lemonade/What doesn't kill you, (use it to) make you stronger. Singapore had to deal with a lot of limitations in resources as a new state, but wit careful and deliberate planning made the best of the situation and used it to their advantage. 

2. Recognize the strength we have as a community and nurture it, engage it towards a shared goal. 

3. Invest in human capital, provide education and training and ensure a strong, reliable and resilient population (not just citizens but everyone).
