Propaganda or Control: In Matched there are many things that show how the government is in control of the society. The Officials use the people’s fear of becoming aberrations to keep them in line. For example, when they were in the movie theater and showed what it was like in the Outer Provinces.

Evidence of Futuristic World: Matched has many times where they refer to the old world and how people used to live. They describe this time to be chaotic. They also have their artifacts, the 100 books, 100 songs, 100 pieces of art, 100 poems, and museums, which are all from the old world.

I liked reading this book because I like reading things that take place in a different world than what we live in. In this book, there are many ways that it is different than the real world. For example, they have the red, green, and blue pills. They also have officials that are in charge of, and watch over, everything. This is all very different from the real world, which is what makes it interesting to me.

I would recommend this to anyone that likes dystopian novels and romances, because it takes place in a different world and there is a love triangle between Cassia, Ky, and Xander.

Who do you think is the smarter choice, Xander or Ky?

I would ask this because I know that she wants to be with Ky more and cares about him more, but I want to know who she thinks the smarter choice is, setting aside her feelings.

Would you ever take the green pill if you really needed it?

I know that she doesn’t want to take the green pill because of what her grandfather said, but I want to know if she would take it if she really needed it.

Is leaving your family behind and risking your life worth it to save Ky?

I am sure that she would say yes, but she also cares about her family, and wouldn’t want them to lose her, especially Bram.

I would like Cassia to find Ky, and for Xander to find someone else and leave Cassia alone. I hope that they overthrow the government and get to build a new civilization. In this civilization, I hope that the right people are in charge that will give people more freedoms and rights, while still making sure that safety is a concern.

Technology- In this novel there is a lot of use of technology. For example all of the homes have a port which is described to be like a tv which is used for communication. The Officals can send messages on the ports or use them as a FaceTime feature to talk with any member of the family. The Officials also drive in flying cars which is very futuristic and uses a lot of new technology.

Propaganda and Control- In Matched there is also a lot of over use of control. The Official use control with the Aberrations and using them as an example of what people should not do. The Officials also can tell people when to use the red pill which makes them lose parts of their memory, so if there is ever an incident and the Officals want everyone to forget what happened they can tell everyone to take their red pill and they will forget everything that happened.

Over all I really liked this book. It started out kind of slow but as the book went on it got a lot better. In the beginning the novel was hard to get into because it was very basic with Cassia being such a rule follower and always doing what she is told. Then as the novel went on Cassia started to defy the Society and there was a lot more action in the novel.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes a slightly dystopian genre and romance. There is a lot of dystopian parts of this book but it is not as dramatic as other dystopian novels. This novel would also be good for anyone who likes romance because the whole plot of the story is based on Cassias love interests and the love triangle she’s stuck in.

What was your thoughts when you saw Xander and Ky on your micro chip?

-This interests me because I feel like we were not told much about how Cassia felt about seeing both guys on her micro chip.

When did you first realize that what this Society was doing was wrong?

- There is a lot of clues that lead Cassia to defy the Society but I want to know what the final straw was that made her really dislike the Officials and the Society.

How do you plan to find Ky?

-I want to know if she plans to completely run away from her new home, or if she plans to find Ky through clues then go find him.

In the end of Matched, Cassia and her family have to move away from home. Before they get this news Ky is taken away to the Outer Provinces. At the end of the novel we are given hints that Cassia will try to find Ky. I hope in the next novel, Cassia and Ky will be reunited.
