a. Find the main claim, grounds and warrant in the speech
Her main claim is, that all children (girls and boys and no matter which color they have) should have equal rights regarding education. Because everyone deserves education. The warrant is that if every person on the planet is educated, terrorism would be minimized. 
 
The extremists are afraid of 65 books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them.
 
 
b. How does Malala argue? 
  • She uses different rhetorical features, and appeals to pathos and ethos.

a.     Find the three dominating rhetorical features in this speech and give examples of them and comment on their function
 
  • Anaphora: 30-37,  she repeat “i” and “Their right to”. And sentence 44-45 “I am the same Malala. My ambitions are the same. My hopes are the same. My dreams are the same.”

  • Yes, while she gaines attention on her opinions.
 
c.      What is the main purpose of the speech?
  • Her purpose is to gain attention on people's right to education, women’s rights and to protect children from brutality and harm. She attach most importance to right to education.

  • Yes she manages to captivate the audience, and create a feeling of need towards equal rights.

Circumstances: She has been shot because she talked/wrote about what the Taliban was doing in Pakistan. At the time of the speech she had been in rehabilitation for a year. 
Intention: She wanted to inspire people to stand up for women’s rights and to set education first.

Argumentation

The main claim: Education is important and it will solve many problems in the world. 
Grounds: “The pen is mightier than sword”. If people get educated there will be more equality, and the terrorist will have failed.
Warrant: People being equal is good.

What is Malala’s intention with the speech?
She wanted to inspire people to stand up for women’s rights and to set education first. She also wants the world leaders focus more on trying to reach peace, and help with reaching to goal of education for all, and equality.
Does she succeed as a speaker?
She becomes famous after giving the speech, and her message is therefore spread to a lot of people-which was one of her goals. Ofcourse she cant change the world with a single speech, but it brought a lot of attention to the topic of equality and education.

    She argues definitely with love in her words. She wants the best for the kids, the boys, the girls: everyone. In her speech, she appeals to ethos and logos by talking to our common sense. The primary audience is the pakistani people and the second audience is the free world (western countries). Almost every man or woman in the western counties have the right to education, boy or woman.

    She is speaking up for justice and civil rights
    She spoke for all those people who does not have a voice and fought for their civil rights, just as access to school. 
    b.     Does she succeed as a speaker?
    She raised great attention, so I guess so. But there were also many who felt a provocation, which also gives her a lot of attention. 
    c.      What is the main purpose of the speech?
    To pay attention for all those people which is being treated unfairly, specially for women’s rights
    d.     Does the speech fulfil its function?
    Very much

    • Put more pressure between Denmark and I-countries: “In Denmark you can do this, shouldn’t these countries be allowed the same?”

    The ground: Because everyone deserves an education, which will lead to a peaceful world.

    Malala believes in education for all:

    This is an example of the main claim “Education First”, in the speech she talks about the reason why the taliban do what they do because they are not educated. 

    One of her grounds is that books and pens are the most powerful weapon. Education can inlighten the world and make it a better place. “The pen is mightier than sword”.

    “Islam is a religion of peace, humanity and brotherhood. Islam says that it is not only each child's right to get education, rather it is their duty and 80 responsibility”. (Page 2 line 78)

    As a Pakistani woman who has been shot in an assassination attempt she has a lot of ethos. She speaks and fights on behalf of her beloved people. Through her blog she has gained attention and a platform to fight for women's rights and education for pakistani girls. Therefore she is a well-known activist most people prostrate themselves before.

    Does the speech fulfil its function?
    Yes because she motivates people and especially young women to stand up and fight for themself. She becomes an inspiration/a role model.
