However, it should not affect the sentence to the extent that it currently does as these people have still committed crimes and should be punished. If the person has schizophrenia they may not be too aware of the crime that they are committing, so with that I agree that they should be allowed to use that reasoning in court. With depression, I don't believe it is enough of a reason to be able to get less of a punishment as they are fully aware of the crime they will cause.
