-  Jonas' family does rituals every day to talk out there emotions and feelings. Lily went first, than the father, than the mother and finally Jonas himself.

-  In the country that they live in each family has to have 1 daughter, 1 son, a mother and a father. No exceptions what soever

1) What does it mean in the story when it says,  "we'll release him?"

Released mean that they are going to kill them.

2) Why can you only have a 4 person family? You should be able to have as many kids as you want?

Because than their wouldn't be enough food for the people. Their would be people that would starve and have pain of not having enough food. - The house of the old was happy to have volunteers at that hour because they released someone.

-Once long ago there was someone that couldn't get there assignment because they didn't finish their volunteer ours. So they had to restart eleven and didn't get to have a cerimonie, they had to live with the guilt.

-  Jonas was bathing an old that eas named larissa. This reminded Jonas of the time his father bathed Gabriel. They were talking about the old person that was released. Jonas knew the person. His name was Roberto.

There is a room that they go into to release someone. How the dream came into Jonas' head was because when they were bathing the elders, Fiona was with them and his brain made a reaction to this. So that's how the dream came into Jonas' head.

-The ceremony of tens wasn't interesting for Jonas, all though they did get new haircuts.

-  Asher was talking the Jonas that if you don't like your assignment or you don't want to be apart of there community, that you apply to go into a different community.

- Right when they were just about to call Jonas' name, they skipped him and went on to number 20. He felt so ashamed. He was think hard about why they had forgot to call his name. He was thinking that he did something wrong

1) Why don't they have cars? Why do they only use bikes?

 Because when they had snow it made it difficult to move around, they don't have snow anymore, so that they can easily move their bikes. It's easier to move around in climates with bikes than cars.

2) Why can't they pick their own jobs? Wouldn't that be easier?

Because of someness. Jonas was one of those people that had lighter eyes, it wasn't a rule to have dark eyes but it was rude if someone talked about it.

- they don't have many mirrors in the community, so it startled jonas when looking at the baby and thinking that's what he might have looked like as a child.

- Lily was hoping to be a birthmother for her assignment, but when her mother told her it was a harder job than it seemed, she changed her mine.

- Jonas was playing catch with asher by throwing an apple, something was different about the apple though. Everytime it was thrown it changed for a split second than turned back into a regular apple.

The apple is changing because Jonas has the capacity to see beyond the other people in his communit.

- To be a proper receiver you need intelligence, wisdom, integrity and courage. A lot of courage. But for this assignment, there's a lot of pain that Jonas has to deal with. Mostly physical pain.

- Jonas saw the visions again like he did with the apple, but this time the people around him were changing. All at once he understood. THe Chief Elder had said that Jonas and the other receiver had the capacity to see beyond. Which means he can see farther ahead than anyone else in his community.

1) How did they make the wrong decision? Was the person not capable enough to be the receiver?

The receiver was a female when they chose her. Also, you aren't aloud to mention her name of give it to a newborn.

Color begins to show on them. IT was pretty much the same thing as Jonas' ceremony put when they singled out a person like they did with Jonas, it was a girl. They couldn't use her name again for a newborn because of the mistake that they did.

-Some of the rules didn't feel right to Jonas. For instance. you may lie except illness or injury unrelated to your training, do not apply for any medication.

- Jonas was thinking about the last rule of being a receiver. "You may lie", He thought about it for a while, he didn't think he'd lied before. Except for 1 time when he said he was starving. 

1) Why can't he take medication while he does his training?Will it affect him? Will it cause him more pain?

It will take away the wisdom he will receive from his training and he won't fully understand the meaning of pain.

Ever. So when the attendant at the office unlocked it,, he felt uncomfortable. She reassured him that everything is fine. The door is locked so that the receiver can work in peace.

- When Jonas walked into the room he saw thousands of books that he has never seen before. The only books that he had in his family unit are a dictionary, thick community volumen and the book of rules.

-The other receiver said that he can see what was in the past. Jonas was very confused about that. After trying to explain to him for a long time he still couldn't understand. The person tryed something knew. He told Jonas to sit down so that he could send the memory of what snow looked like. 

1) Why are there so many bookshelves in the room? Are they meen't for different things?

2) How come Jonas doesn't know what snow is? Or a sled? Or runners?

Because they didn't have snow in their community. -Jonas was wondering what to call the man since he kept calling Jonas the reciever. He said to call him the giver

-The reason why people don't see color is because they went to sameness. At the end of the chapter, the giver is going to show Jonas a rainbow.

But this time it was more painful. When he was going down the hill, it was steeper and fill with ice. He flue off the sled and broke his leg. THe pain felt like fire to Jonas. - Jonas was wondering why the giver and him had to keep the terrible memories, he didn't like feeling pain. Although at the end of each lesson, the giver would give him a colorful memory. It gave them wisdom to have painful memories. Before, birthmothers wanted to have 4 childbirths to increase the population. But than it would increase starvation. The committee didn't like pain. That's why they only have a certain amount of people.

- The reason why the receiver has so much honor is because they take away the destruction and memories from people so that don't feel pain. The giver was the one that told the committee to wait and not shoot down the airplane. Because before their was a lot of pain going around people.

- The father and mother were still worried the Gabriel would be released. He might because theirs 2 twins coming soon. The father will have to choose whether 1 will be released or the other. Jonas was taking care of Gabriel when he realized that he gave the memory to him. He was frightened but decided not to tell the giver.

1)  Is this because Gabriel has pale eyes? And would Gabriel become a receiver because of it?

No because if Jonas didn't take the baby with him, Gabriel would have died.

- After, the day was over, Lily was talking about how she got to hang out with her friends and how she rode father's bike but she fell. He would hide in the vehicle that the giver would ride to an errand with.

- At the end Jonas still wanted the giver to come with him but the giver told Jonas that once he was finished he would go and be with his daughter. Jonas didn't know he had a daughter. Her name was Rosemary.

When Jonas was at the bridge near the annex house, he realized that he felt sadness leaving his family behind. The weird thing is that the mother and Lily both agreed that it was understandable. But Jonas didn't say a word. 

- Jonas kept going passed the bridge forgetting about the community that he was in. When Jonas took his father bike to escape, he took Gabriel with him. He knew that Gabriel had a better life to live than being released. THey travailed in the night and slept in the day so that they wouldn't get caught. They were near lots of fields and streams to gather water and food. When ever they slept, Jonas gave him a dream so that he could fall asleep easily without complaining. 

- Jonas realized later on that search planes were now looking for him and the baby. they mostly came in the day but when they came at night Jonas was aware and ready to pedal to the bushes and trees. Even Gabriel said "plane,plane" to let jonas know if he didn't hear the screeching sounds of the planes. Jonas had to transfer cold memories into the baby so that the planes could find them.

- The planes had heat reactions so that they could find the humans that were escaping/sneaking away from the community. After a while the planes didn't come so often. Their was even a day that the planes didn't come at all.

1) Why aren't the planes coming anymore? Did they give up the search?

They think that they are died. So there's no point looking for them anymore.

I think this because blind obedience is when it is important for people to question their society instead of following blindly, but in Jonas’ community most of them are following blindly. For instance, when the kids get hit when they get into trouble, the parents never question what the kids have done. When Asher was three he mistaked the word snack for smake. Of course though, when you mispronounce a word the teachers will hit you. Asher was hit many times because of that. As usual though the parents didn’t question.This goes to show you that even though the parents watch over them and take care of them, they don’t think about what happens to them at school or hesitate to even wonder. Also, when Jonas was talking to the giver about releasing people. The people in the community never questioned about release. When they release the old, nobody knows but the ones who live in the house of the old. Nobody asks to see someone being release until the day that Jonas wanted to see what happened to the twins. Jonas questions about what will happen with Fiona. Jonas knows that she loves the old. But the Giver said that Fiona is already been trained with the fine art of release. Finally, the Giver said that they were trained to do this all their lives. They've been doing this for such a long time. Giver said that they barely knew anything. This goes to show you that they’ve been doing this for so long that still people have no idea what’s going on but don’t seem to care.
