Money plays into this society because of all the rich people in it. I believe Tom is the most influenced by money because in almost every situation he gets himself in, he uses his money to get himself out of it.

tom is old money and the old money gets him out of trouble but Gatsby is new money is new money and he hosts these crazy party's and lied about his parents dying and inherited money but his parents never dyed
