Article one creates the legislative branch of government, house or representatives, senate, congressional elections, and congressional powers. It was designed to overcome the problems of the Articles of Confederation. There's a two-house structure to a compromise between States and to build the idea of equality since people nave more of a say. The Senate has more power than the house of representatives by weighing in presidential nomination, ratifying treaties, and confirming cabinet and court nominees. The house of reps. can initiate impeachment. Both makeup Congress to make laws. Partisanship played a big role while writing the Constitution.

Establishes the executive branch of government. Establishes the office of the president of the United States. Provides info on who's eligible for the presidency. Establishes how the president is elected. Establishes the Presidents powers. Framers were unsure if the U.S should have a single leader. The articles of confederation didn't have an executive branch at all. Parts of the Virginia plan ended up in Article II. President is commander in chief of the army and navy. The president has the power to pardon people. The president has the power to nominate people to certain high-ranking officers such as the supreme court. The president is subject to senate approval. The executive power shall be vested in a President of the united states of America. The President's powers have grown fairly significantly over time. The president has cited the vesting clause as a source of authority. President claims authority to wage war, though congress also holds that power. The president has veto power (the president can sign or reject legislation). The veto can be overriddenby congress. The president has the power to pardon people for federal offenses (unique presidential authority). The president has discretion in enforcing laws. the president recommends legislation to congress. the president informs congress about the state of the union. Presidents don't have that much leverage over the courts. Presidents can appoint and nominate judges to the federal bench. the president cannot veto judicial decisions. - Jon Kelmendi
