At the start of Life of Pi, Pi has always had a positive outlook on life, "Life is so beautiful that even death is jealous of it"(6) and because he was also religious individual, it drives him to look at life in a simpler way. Drifting across the Pacific Ocean, not only by himself but with the biggest, scariest tiger ever- Richard Parker(absolute),, it becomes surreal for him to accept what was happening, "There was a tiger in the lifeboat. I could hardly believe it, yet I had to. And I had to save myself." (147). Time and time spent on the boat, days begin to become rather repetitive. Dying with boredom, Pi begins to question his existence,(participial) "I did not count the days or the weeks or the months. Time is an illusions that only makes us pant. I survived because I forgot even the very notion of time."(192). He found it hard to believe in God, which was truly a turning point for Pi since religion was always a huge part of his life. Faith was failing him, there was nothing that he could put his hope on anymore; (use to combine similar clauses which are not joined by coordinating conjunction) he realized that he has zero control over the choices he makes and where he is drifting, because after all he is still going to be in the middle of no where, with no water and food, only a tiger. Life was becoming an illusion for him, wondering the reality of land and sea.
