Humble
“Sometimes you just got to know when to give up some things…and hold on to what you got…” p. 140
This quote shows that Mama is humble because everyone in the household is so concerned about this check and what they will benefit out of it.Unlike Mama, who is just happy with what she has. Also when Mama divided the money between her two children Walter and Beneatha instead of using the remaining money on herself she told Walter to put it in bank. Lastly, throughout the story Mama made sure that everyone's needs came before her own.

Altruistic
“Walter—What you ain’t never understood is that I ain’t got nothing, don’t own nothing, ain’t never really wanted nothing that wasn’t for you. There ain’t nothing as precious to me…There ain’t nothing worth holding on to, money, dreams, nothing else—if it means—if it means it’s going to destroy my boy.” P. 106
This quote shows that Mama is altruistic because she always put her children first. Mama always made sure that whatever money, dreams, and needs she had she always put aside so that her kids could have it.For an example, instead of Mama spending the money from the check on herself she brought a house for her family. Throughout the story Mama always made sure her kids and their needs came before her own.

Overall Mama is such a sweet person but I also think that Mama is a very sympathetic person.I think that she is sympathetic because throughout the story she is dealing with a lot but hid her emotion in the beginning. Once the check came everything changed. She became more open and expressed her emotions and grief. She always made sure her feelings were expressed and shown throughout her decision making and way of living. I do believe that Mama is a good person. She puts everyone before herself and makes sure that everyone is content and happy.

After looking through tons of artwork I feel like this painting would describe Mama the best. Mama is a unique person she isn't plain or basic, she is a very bold person. All of the different bright colors describe Mama's personality and style. She is very open and isn't afraid to say what needs to be said. This painting also reminds me of the part in the story when Beneatha ask Mama why she is taking her "raggedy" old plant to the new house. Mama responses with "It expresses ME!". which shows that she doesn't care what people think about her style she does herself. The last reason why I choose this artwork is because it doesn't really belong to any starting or ending point it just keeps going. Just like Mama said she doesn't own anything or need anything. Just like this painting it doesn't need any pattern or order it just does itself.

This poem really sticks out to me when thinking of Mama because she is just one of those people who is good with whatever they have and always putting others before her self. While her whole family was letting this check take over their lives and thought about how it would make them a better person Mama said that she was still gonna be the same person without the check.Mama could have taken that money and used it on herself but instead she took that money and brought something that will benefit their whole family. This quote also reminds me of Mama because she doesn't need anything but her children and grandchild. As long as she has her family she is content where she is.

This lyric from the song "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw relates to Mama because she is going trough a lot. She just lost her husband, her son and daughter in law are fighting, her daughter in law is pregnant, they have no room in their house, her son is going out of control, and her family is all fighting over this check. Throughout all of these problems that she is facing she remains humble and caring. She may have lost it a few times on Walter but she never meant to intentionally hurt him.

Post 8: Theme Fences/ Raisin in The Sun

In the play "Fences" and the book "Raisin in The Sun" you see similar themes and characters but they are two totally different stories. The theme that best fits the play "Fences" would be Love. Throughout the story the main character Tory is very self centered. He has lost a lot his dreams to become a baseball player, his brother Gabe suffers brain damage, his youngest son's trust, and for awhile his wife's trust. He has hurt his family in lots of ways and didn't care for awhile. Troy's wife Rose asked him to build a fence around their house. Rose wants this fence to hold her loved ones close. Her whole life she wanted a family of her own that she could love and care for.

The theme of the story "Raisin in The Sun" is dreams. In the book the younger family is receiving a insurance check due to the loss of the man of their family.Everyone in that family has a dream that they want to fulfill with this check. Just like Troy the main character Walter Younger is a bit stuck up. Everything has to be about him. He is currently causing so many arguments throughout the house because he wants to use the whole check on himself to buy a liquor store.Mama his mother doesn't really want or need anything but she's always wanted a better house to fit her family.Mama takes half of the check and buy's them a house that fits everyone.Mama does this because she want's a better environment for her family and a place to call their own. They never really had a place of their own, their old house they had to share a bathroom with the neighbors . Once Mama does this the family is content, happy, and finally have a place to call their own home.
