John Dalton was born the 5th of September 1766 and died the 27th of July 1844. Colour blindness was known as Daltonism because of him. John Dalton also proposed the theory about the atom in 1808. He stated that all matter is made up of microscopic particles called atoms. All atoms are invisible, they can't be broken up into smaller or simpler particles.

Boyle discovered the relationship between pressure and volume in a gas that is now known as Boyle's law by using a vacuum chamber to change the pressure in a gas. He made careful observations and conducted a series of experiments to show that pressure and volume are inversely proportional to each other.

Newlands was the first to recognize that the elements fall into a pattern in which their properties repeat at regular intervals when they are listed in order of increasing atomic weight. He was also the first to assign atomic numbers to the elements.

The discovery of radioactivity in 1896 led to a series of more in-depth investigations. In 1899 Ernest Rutherford demonstrated that there were at least two distinct types of radiation: alpha radiation and beta radiation. He discovered that radioactive preparations gave rise to the formation of gases.
