In what ways have these communities also supported one another amid the pandemic and a national reckoning on race?

7. In the video you watched in the warm up, Katherine Oung says, “It seems like since the start of the Coronavirus outbreak, schools have been a petri dish for racism. It’s dangerous to normalize behavior like this for people my age.” Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? It can range from physical to verbal harassment and even threats or bullying online. Some of these could be so serious it could leave the victims greatly injured or mentally scared. 
2. Words can influence those around you greatly. It can cause people to act rashly or use it against you. In this case, the words of a superior leads people to believe they are correct and thus leading to their actions. But if we use our words to spread awareness and information, this can cause more people to act in a respectful and more fitting behavior.
8.Since I live in a Asian populated area, there is not much discrimination's or harassment occurring. If anything, most of us aren't even aware of the situation. My mother watch's the news and shared a lot of what's going on around us to my family causing us to realize just how bad the situation was. After finding out I felt extremely sad that people would do such things. It also made me feel extremely lucky to be living in a more accepting community. Such as the school I attend to and the place I live. 2.   Anti-Asian violence has increased drastically recently mainly because of the blame placed on Asians for the Corona virus. Many people are using this to excused their racist behavior and justify their actions. Donald J. Trump and others have called the Corona virus the Chinese virus or the Kung Flu. Although it is true that the virus originated from China, there is a reason its name is Corona virus. Diseases and viruses aren't named by ethnicity's because it causes that group to be victims of various hate crimes. The WHO also has guid lines in naming diseases to prevent the spread of hate. For example, the Spanish flu did not originate from Spain but it was used to create a false impression. Naming diseases based on countries, locations, ethnicity, etc just causes the spread of hate and racism.

4. During the pandemic, discrimination has grown against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders by the increase in hate crimes and bullying. Asian-Americans have unlocked a new fear of being hurt within the outside, facing the new discrimination from others. It is difficult to quantify incidents of harassment because of the low actions that are taken for these certain  incidents. 2) words of leaders matter. His remarks about "Kung-flu" and "China Virus" certainly increased anti-Asian sentiments. And him not condemning violent white supremacy groups made some to feel the freedom to violently attack Asian Americans using physical means.

2) The language being used and the word choice has a great amount of power and influence over people. From our former president, Donald J. Trump has referred to Covid-19 as the China virus and because of that, he was convinced his supporters that the virus did indeed originate from China and that it was our fault that the virus had spread. 
8) I try not to let the current situation bother me because it's not a surprise that Asian Americans are still being discriminated in society. However, I'm constantly scared and frustrated when I see a new post on Instagram about an Asian being attacked or abused. We have seen cases of physical violence towards Asian elders, people creating racist remarks that mock Asian people and the virus, cases of murder in Asian owned businesses. The number of harassment cases unfortunately grow larger by the day with the current situation.
6. The most effective strategy of preventing racism from spreading is to spread the message to a national level. The more people who can hear about the discrimination, the more people are able to stop it. There is no least effective way because I believe that every small impact is still an impact. I haven't really seen these of them supporting each other, but it's inclined to change. And by inclined to change, I mean recognizing the agreeable mantra that violence against one community is not an excuse to exploit the flaws of another.

They incite people to rally against a common cause, good or bad, and because it can incite passion, it can also ignite hate. The energy that is spurned from the anger that is sowed by speech grows and grows and turns into actions. When people are united in a common cause, they also hate a common enemy.
5) I think it is worth noting that while these two communities have had tensions, there is also the commonality in that throughout history, almost every group of people of color has experienced discrimination. Racial tensions between the Black and Asian communities in America have long been in play. A large part stems from the idea of Asian Americans being the Model Minority, achieving what seemed to be overall success despite their hardships, an idea used against other minorities to portray them as lazy and violent, and to hurt the Asian community as well to group a diverse group all within a sphere of success, limiting chances for aid when they need it. Asians have been mocked for their "proximity to white people" by other minorities as if they are cheating oppression, while some Asians themselves aspire to be as close as possible to being white. I have to laugh at this last part. Many types of harassments and acts of violence have been shown to Asians throughout the pandemic, especially when it first began. People perpetuated stereotypes, called Asian people slurs, spread rumors and misinformation, even going as far to verbally and physically assault people. Many Asian-Americans have been killed and injured by racially motivated crimes. Asian people were also accused of having the Corona Virus and were seen as "responsible" for spreading it. 
8. I know for a fact that these crimes have been affecting me as well as countless family members and friends. Sometimes it's terrifying and scary to go outside and think that everyone is looking at you for being Asian. It hurts to know that I can't even walk outside without having to bring a form of protection or to walk with someone else. I feel many emotions for these situations, mostly sadness and anger. How people can get away with these things in the present day and how the media still portrays us in negative stereotypes.
