         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Law of Conservation of Mass - </strong>The amount of matter does not change during a chemical reaction, only that the atoms are rearranged to form new substances. This is evidenced in a balanced chemical equation. </p><p><strong>mass - </strong>The amount of matter in an object.</p><p><strong>reactants -  </strong>The starting materials that participate in a chemical reaction. Reactants are always written on the left side of a chemical equation</p><p><strong>products - </strong>The new substances formed due to that reaction. Products are always written on the right side of a chemical equation</p><p><strong>chemical reaction - </strong> A process in which one or more substances, also called reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, known as products.</p><p><strong>open system - </strong>A container where matter (like chemicals) and energy (like heat) can freely enter and leave the system.</p><p><strong>closed system - </strong>A container where no matter can enter or leave, but energy can still be transferred in or out of the system.</p><p><strong>conserved - </strong>The amount of a substance (like mass) remains the same during a chemical reaction</p><p><strong>transformed - </strong>A chemical process that changes the composition, state, or organization of matter. </p><p><strong>balanced chemical equation - </strong>the number of atoms of each element on the reactant side of a chemical reaction is the same as the number of atoms of each element on the product side.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
