Then, on 20 May 1992, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was renamed the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism or MoCAT. in 2004, MoCAT was broken up to facilitate the establishment of a separate ministry, the Ministry of Tourism (MoTour) for the purpose of promoting tourism as a source of national income. In addition, in 2013, MoCAT again changed to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) after the 13th General Election for the purpose of promoting Malaysian tourism.
