-Tally: She wants to keep her promise to Peris, but feels so guilty about trying to ruin the life of everyone in the smoke, that she decides to not call Dr.Cable with the tracker. She feels like an Orchid, she feels like she will destroy everything around her, and little by little, she starts to fall for David, even though he is an ugly, which will lead to the end of her friendship with Shay.
-Shay: She's happy that Tally was able to arrive in the smoke safely, but starts to feel jealous once she realises the guy she likes, David, is interested in Tally
-David: He starts to develop feelings for Tally once he sees how good of a person she is, as well as how hardworking and serious she can be.
-Dr.Cable: He is a crude man who doesn't care about the well being of anyone, unless he gets what he wants. He even left Tally with nothing but dehydrated SpagBol for a week.
-Croy: He is very suspicious of Tally. 1. Tally begins her trip to The Smoke where she had to be a spy and to betray Shay to have the operation by Dr. Cable and to become pretty. Nobody will know about this trip even her parents.   She will reach The Smoke with a hoverboard that Dr. Cable gave to her. The hoverboard is faster and more technological than the others that she have stepped on. 

2. In her road to The Smoke, Tally encounters some problems like when she has to sleep in the cold (in the nature) and when she has to eat her SpagBols who were very good at the beginning but that became too much repetitive for her. Also when she is at the end of her trip she is sleeping in the nature and then she begins to feel fire and to listen to sounds, when she wakes up she sees that there is a lot of fire in there than a helicopter with some people called the Rangers save her. After the Rangers tell her that they have put the fire in the nature because they have to burn a flower called the orchids that can kill the wildlife. 

3. When Tally arrives to the Smoke, she meets Shay and all her friends (David, Croy, Ryde and Astrix). Shay makes discover all the place to Tally and also the Rusties that are a old civilisation. In the Smoke Tally is going to be confronted to the choice that she has to do between calling Dr.Cable and ruin all the life of the Rusties or to stay in the Smoke.

-Human Vs Human: A love triangle is born between Tally, Shay and David. Shay likes David, but David likes Tally. Even though Tally didn't feel that way at the beginning, she starts to like David, and that might lead to the destruction of Tally and Shay's friendship

The main theme of the book is trust. It's something that is extremely present in this part of the book. Tally made a promise to both Shay and Peris and both trust her, but we know that she will have to betray one or the other. She had decided to honor her promise to Peris, but in the end wanted to keep her promise to Shay. In my opinion, I believe that the song beautiful by Eminem makes a strong connection to the society that the people in Uglies live in. In the song, it says:
"In my shoes, just to see
What it's like, to be me
I'll be you, let's trade shoes
Just to see what it'd be like to
Feel your pain, you feel mine
Go inside each other's minds
Just to see what we find
Look at sh*t through each other's eyes, but don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful".
The main message that is shown in the song is that people should be more compassionate and think about others rather than themselves. When we read this book we can think about the Hunger Games, because in both the settings are very similar (Futuristic, Environment) and we can see in both that the state decide all of the action that the population do.
