This is evident within the source, "You should be more responsible now you’re thirteen, Andrew!”. this further explains that in the 20th century children are expected to be responsible with given freedom to be independent. However, in the source B, it is evident that Richard is endure a complete different sheltered experience at age 16. In the text it is evident such as, "Richard sat quietly all evening, his hands folded in his lap.,". this suggests that in the 19th century children were much more subdued to societal order and not been allowed much independence as teenagers.
