In 1832, while returning by ship from studying art in Europe, Morse got the idea of an electric telegraph because he heard a conversation about a new discovery called electromagnet. But he was still devoting most of his time to painting; however by 1837 he had fully let go of his art career and focused on his new invention. A friend from work, chemist named Leonard Gale; introduced Morse to Alfred Vail, who offered to provide materials and labor to build models in his family’s iron works in Morris-Town, New Jersey. Vail became a partner in Morse’s telegraph rights. By 1838 he and Vail had developed the system of dots and dashes that became known throughout the world as the Morse Code. He would have this app so he could communicate better with people like Alfred Vail, so they could get their project done faster.

Samuel Morse had many talents, but he was also an artist, and he loved making pictures. He only painted small portraits to satisfy his parents, whom his Dad was a Geographer. His real interest was in the little studied topic of electricity. When he returned home in 1815 his style of artistic drawings of roman he learned in England were harshly rejected and he reluctantly returned to his portraits but still had roman features to the portraits. He would have this app so he could still color without having to make masterpieces that pleased his parents.

The Gallery of the Louvre is one of his most famous pieces. It's based on a canvas he created for the edification of his countrymen.
The start of Morse's efforts into new technologies like the telegraph can be found in the crafting of Gallery of the Louvre. This would be his wallpaper because it is one of his most famous pieces that made him really who he was before and during when he invented the telegraph, it really inspired him to create his idea that had been stirring for a long time, but was put on hold when he still had to be an artist. This was one of his last pieces before he gave up being an artist, and it's one of the most important paintings in his career.

On his second trip to Europe in April of 1830, he came across a fellow American, Stephen Salisbury II who commissioned a painting. This view of a wayside chapel in the Sabine Mountains on the road to Subiaco, they sketched this during a trip, and was painted in Morse's Rome studio. This was one of the last paintings that Morse had painted before he gave it up, it'd be in his gallery because it was an important painting to him before his art career came to an end.

This would be a part of his gallery not only because he's proud of his creation, but because so he would also have a place to save it to so he could easily translate when people sent him codes

Railroads used telegraphs often because it was necessary to communicate in farther away stations. The telegraph, then allowed railroads to function more properly. Railroads, in the end improved American life by allowing goods to be transported farther distances, and that made goods more available to more people at a cheaper price. The telegraph also allowed far distance communication that could be transmitted to foreign countries, this helped Americans me more aware of their world in general. This app would be great for Railroads because it translates Morse Code easily.

Did you figure anything out at the university while I was gone on my trip?
Vail: Yeah, I mean it's not the greatest but I've been working on a theory for a couple weeks now; do you want to maybe see it Samuel?
Morse: Yeah sure send it over, I'll see if it looks good, maybe I can add to your ideas.
Vail: Alright just sent it
...
