The electoral votes that you get (North Carolina gives 15, for example) are based on the number of people that vote for you in each state. So, for example, in North Carolina....if 51% of the individual people voted for Clinton, and only 49% voted for Trump, the Clinton would get all 15 of NC's votes! So, yea, the Electoral College system is kinda broken, but it is still important for each person to vote to decide who wins each state, and thus who wins the electoral votes from that state!
