Greetings: Jamaicans consider it important to recognize and greet others and to be recognized in return. These greetings range from a nod to a slap on the back to a kiss. This all depends on how well the people know each other and the occasion. Strangers usually shake hands and say Good… (morning, afternoon, etc.). While talking to someone, depending on the situation and age level will change how they address that person, for example coworkers are addressed as Mr., Mrs., and Miss., while close family friends are auntie and uncle. Finally in casual situations is where the popular nicknames are used. These nicknames are often given to them by a group of friends about either a physical attribute like fatty for a fat person, or juicy for a person who sells juice.

Gestures: Jamaicans are very animated when they are speaking, they tend to use excessive hand gestures to help them prove their point. They have a lot of similar gestures as Americans do but, they are just changed a little bit. For example to hail a taxi they will wave their hand from the height of the knee to shoulder instead of above the head. Also they share similar ways to gains someone’s attention, they do this by clapping or tapping on a gate if one is available or even pssst, even though that can be considered rude. Finally in public they share many of the same actions, like men offering bus seats to women and children as well as holding the door for them.

Family:
The family structure varies in Jamaica according to several factors, including one's social standing and location. For example if one family is a poorer family and living in rural areas, these families are usually larger than those in the middle and upper class. All fathers are expected to finically support their children, and if they don't they will face social disapproval. At the same time, rural families often lack fathers in the home because they are out across the country, trying to find enough money to send to their family.

Housing:
The quality and style of housing varies considerably in Jamaica. Luxurious mansions of the upper class, have separate quarters for the domestic employees, swimming pools and huge parcels of lands. This housing style is totally opposite of the basic shacks of the poor. These shacks located both in urban and rural areas, are only built to protect against the weather and other natural harms.
