I believe that this course will be helpful to me in several ways. I hope that being required to utilize various platforms for discussions and answers will provide me time during the summer to analyze these tools to determine if they will be beneficial to my own classroom use. I also believe it will be valuable to me to connect with educators outside of my district to learn what has been working well for them and how to incorporate those positives into my own teaching.

My intention for learning in this course is to be open to new ideas. Remote learning could be a valuable tool for certain circumstances in the future, and having some effective skills in my tool box is always beneficial. In addition to that, my goal is to learn from the success of others.

I think it will also be beneficial to have a focused topic I can bring into my classroom.

My goal for this course is to gain new skills/tools for my classroom not only for the future, but the present as well if they work in my classroom. I am also ready to learn from not only the resources, but from other educators.

I think this course will be valuable to me because it will improve my teaching practice. As a UA teacher in a district with both a full remote and hybrid program, I taught both in person classes and full remote classes daily. I often struggled with many aspects of the remote classes, student engagement, technology, and more. As an elementary educator being across the screen created a huge barrier in my ability to assist struggling students. I really need strategies and researched best practices to add to my knowledge base in the remote teaching area.

My goal is to learn to to teach students effectively in a remote based model should the need ever arise again. I am also hoping to gain some technology skills that would be applicable in the classroom as well.

Although remote learning arose out of necessity, it seems as though it will remain in some capacity for the future. One valuable piece that I am looking forward to is collaborating with other educators, because as a consultant I am not often part of staff development or regular schoolwide meetings. I am sort of an outsider with knowledge in a specific area. It will be valuable to get more perspectives and learn more about how other educators made remote learning successful (as well as maybe what wasn't). Remote learning is something I think is here to stay and therefore a valuable area for me to learn more about.

My goals for this course is to become more familiar with teaching remotely and to become confident using technology that until last year I never imagined would be a part of my teaching.

I predict that this course will be valuable to me on many levels. First, I welcome the opportunity to have a reflective practice forum. To be able to process and fully digest the last school year, successes and challenges is important. To appreciate and understand the resilience in myself and colleagues is rewarding. Secondly, I am excited about the opportunity to 'fill my toolbox' by learning new ways of creating student motivation and engagement in a virtual classroom. Lastly, I am a learner. I retired on June 22nd after 32 years of teaching, however, when I saw this opportunity I jumped at the chance to learn more about creating a robust virtual classroom. I truly believe that remote learning, for all ages, is the new normal and I want to be ready to participate.

My goals for this course are simple.
~ connect with other teachers and engage in reflection
~keep myself relevant and add to my teaching resume
~have the opportunity to read current articles on the topic and look at research on student learning in a global pandamic. PS I love reading John Hattie's work. I have seen him twice in person and he is a guiding beacon on hope for public education.

I predict this course will be valuable to me by giving me an opportunity to process and trouble shoot tools and technology as well as considering the instructional challenges that were encountered throughout this past school year while using them, without the pressure of being in the moment. Students are not currently in school, and we are not under the pressure of solving all of the problems right now, I can recall some instances from the school year when issues came up, and now I can reflect on what could have been done differently, what else could have been implemented or utilized in terms of tools, etc. I was introduced like so many other educators to incredible resources, however we were so in the thick of the expectation of applying and utilizing them immediately that we did not really get to explore them and consider a multitude of options that are out there for virtual learning. My intentions for this course are to absorb the information that is presented, and explore the materials and resources at my own comfortable pace. Hopefully some of my peers in this course have utilized some of the resources and can shed on light on their experience with them.

I predict that I will learn more useful technology tools to bring to my students. I expect comradery here as well when we all share our experiences, thoughts, fears, learning, and questions. We have all been through quite a lot this year and it's refreshing to pull some good things out of all of this while acknowledging that we did all of this under serious pressure and stress to help our students. I really simply expect to learn in an atmosphere of sharing and thoughtfulness. It's nice to share and learn ahead of a school year instead of in "panic mode". I look forward to learning new tools and learning new ways to use old tools.

I predict that these five weeks will touch upon things that I’ve either noticed, wondered about or wanted to know about ever since we first started to teach virtually (and in some cases, even before then).

For example, I’m excited to see that we’ve been given a data-base that sites the variables that have the greatest impact on student achievement. I had learned about these years ago but it’s so important to revisit and rethink WHAT it is exactly that I’m doing as a teacher during those precious few minutes when I have my students. Am I using the teaching techniques that are the most effective or am I falling back on those I feel the most comfortable with? Being once again exposed to the scientific information that has proven to elevate student knowledge reminds me to focus on what’s best for the students.

Perhaps the most important reason why I think this course is valuable is because I’m going to learn about distance learning from the experience of other educators. That’s probably the thing that excites me the most because my most important learning tends to come from my colleagues and the advice they pass on to me.

My goals for my learning in this course are:
~~ To implement teaching techniques that will give my students the most “bang for their buck” with regard to their time with me. I want my students not to just make it through middle school and high school but make it to college with a toolbox of skills that will help them understand and assimilate what they learn with as much ease as possible as ELLs.

~~ To use techniques that will utilize the little time I have with my students in a magnified way, creating learning outcomes that they can see and feel. This will instill self-confidence in them, which is my #1 overall goal for each and every one of them.

~~ To not fall apart or burn out due to exhaustion but rather, use my lesson planning time with purpose instead of wasting my time searching, thinking and recreating over and over again. My hope is that through this course, I will learn to optimize my time for the benefit of both myself and my students.

Course Value: I'm excited to re-ignite my fire for reflection. I felt like this year's professional development, especially at the end of the school year focused on moving forward and summer work. There was not time for reflection on practice. Each time we had a staff meeting we were always told what we had accomplished, but not given an opportunity to come up with these ourselves. I believe that the value of reflection is the first piece of moving forward and, as Elena Aguilar points out, must be given time to process. I hope that this course will also be able to give me time to come back to my base strategies and practices and refine that before heading back in to the classroom.
Intention/Goal: My intentions for this course is to come up with a plan to remind myself to check in each week, month, quarterly to be reflective, keep consistent structure in the course, and to find a balance of self-care, which is the first to go when times get tough.

With good intention, I viewed this course as a vehicle to becoming less awkward when dealing with any and all computerized teaching when meeting with colleagues this coming year. I had begun to be extremely self conscious when digital "talk" started at meetings or when doing PD.
The value of the course will present itself in future scenarios that relate to the computer. The moment I don't feel unable to express myself because I have become more comfortable with the digital world in its entirety will be after experienced it without the other staff. This is for my experience. My learning and my own realizations.
Therefore, once I have embarked on this opportunity alone, I am hoping to emerge as a more confident educator.
I look forward to be able to say that I did this, learned something and am able to retain knowledge that allows me to approach the coming years without the fear and disappointment in myself that I held onto the year through.
I am also looking forward to having a better "game face" with the kids and not seeming completely lost. Everything help. Each time I'm challenged, I improve. I can't lose. I know I will come away at the very least, feeling more capable.
