A couple of thoughts about this graphic: (1) Reflects the limitations of education systems. At the end, what we decide to put forth as content that is worth learning is a reflection of the predominant values of our society. To an extent, it is a vehicle to indoctrinate students to the dominant values of our society and I don't know how we can escape that within our current system (2) I think there needs to be an effort to differentiate between teaching so that students "acquire" knowledge vs. students learning how to synthesize information they get to make decisions

The image is implying that too much emphasis is placed on testing with less emphasis on art skills. I actually think we can incorporate arts into the curriculum very easily. Many students are visual learners and by having them draw or build models in science they can access the material being taught more effectively.

I think for some rote tasks like counting you might not have to be fully engaged and the repetition alone could lead to learning the task, but for higher level skills I think engagement is crucial and also sometimes a joy for the subject to cause the greatest learning outcomes.
