In Module 1 we learned about the 3 different types of managers, top-level managers, middle managers, and first-line managers. We learned the roles these managers have within an organization. Along with the three skills successful manager have, technical skills, conceptual skills, and human skills. I have been able to take the teachings from Module 1 and implement them into my current career.

Business ethics, diversity, and company culture all topics we learned about in Module 2. A company that prides themselves on making ethical business decisions sets themselves up for success. Unethical decisions could lead to fines and poor reputation. Diversity within the company also builds the culture within the company. It allows for differing ideas and individuals to feel represented which in turn builds a positive work environment.

Module 3 was all about a company considering going global, the benefits, and potential disadvantages. Global supply chains can open up a list of new suppliers for a company. When expanding into a global market a company will also need to take into considering the cultural differences of the market they are entering and how to efficiently handle these differences.

In Module 4 we learned the importance of planning for a company. PESTEL analysis, SWOT analysis, and Porter's Five Forces are some of the strategic management tools we learned about in Module 4. Decision making plays a significant role within the company, we learned the different styles of decision making, and the 6 steps in the rational decision making process, identifying the problem, establishing decision criteria, weigh the decision criteria, generate alternatives, evaluate the alternatives, and selecting the best alternative.

Module 5 showed us there are 4 key elements of an organizations structure, common purpose, coordinated effort, division of labor, and hierarchy of authority. Teams can be beneficial to a company because they can encourage collaboration, participative leadership, and allow effective decision making.

Module 6 covered the importance and roles that Human Resources (HR) have within a company. HR is in charge of hiring and termination of employees, training and on boarding of new employees, and compensation. We also learned about the importance of effective communication and how important it is to have good communication as a manager.

Module 7 taught me that strong leadership encourages change, creativity and motivates employees. Effective leadership can be difficult to achieve but it is one of the most important skills for a manager to represent. Encouraging employees and motivating them is another important practice of managers. In Module 7 we learned about several different theories for motivation.

Module 8 discussed ways to measure the performance of a company using employee and self evaluations. It also discussed the importance of audits within the company. Audits provide insight into how efficiently the area they are auditing is performing. Module 8 included several different project management tools. For example, Gantt charts and PERT charts. It also discussed budget controls and techniques, a budget is one of the most important things to keep a company finically on track.
