For the front cover of the album it appears to be quite plain and simplistic. The image of the band in the middle whilst the bands name and title of the album remains at the top of the cover positioned in the middle. The plain style is designed purposely for the audience to easily identify and find; conventional for alternative rock album covers. The back cover, which conventionally is normally 'cluttered' is not. It simply has the song list positioned at the left side of the album, spaced out, making it clear to read. By making the song list big it differentiates the front cover from the back.

The style of typography used is a san-serif font which overall gives the typography used a simple feel to the album. This style of font is again used on the back cover for the song list; a convention of form to link the back and the front cover as the images do not match. The size of the font for the bands name is slightly bigger than the album name attracting fans of the band firstly; another convention of form as it is easier for the bands representative logo to be recognised. The simplistic design overall gives a plain however styled appeal to the album making the audience inquisitive about the music rather than focus solely on the design and appearance. This is conventional for the alternative rock genre holding focus onto the band and its sound rather than their overall image.

The image which covers the album has clearly included all of the band members in the foo fighters. This is conventional too see and would be typically expected as some alternative rock artists do include themselves on the albums. They however have applied it conventionally by being creative and subtly; through the use of the different colours. The back of the album has a blurred image which appears to be in the shape of some form of instruments. This is again conventional for an album by showing the instruments which the band play which form there specific sound.

The colour scheme for the album holds a black background whilst using slight bright colous like red, pink, blues and green. This use of colour is also transferred onto the back of the cover however only using black pink and red with slight hint of yellow. This is slightly unconventional for an alternative rock album as it includes the colour black but the brightness is unusual. Although quite bright the album still holds an overall darkness about it however standing out to the buyer; as well conventional for the rock genre by showing a rebellious attitude.

From this album I can gather that it is slightly conventional but has unconventional aspects in terms of form and genre. The colours used are slightly unconventional for genre by using the bright colours, however, it takes a modern take on an alternative rock album which is becoming more common. In terms of form it is conventional that both the back and the front do have matching colours schemes and you would typically expect to see this and automatically link the two together. Likewise, in terms of the layout the album includes the essentials in order to make a functioning album; the song lists, album name and title and image. Overall I can gather that this album fits into the alternative rock album cover and its appearance does fit the genre.

The overall colour scheme is black and white; two conventional colours for an alternative rock album cover. On the front cover the edges appear quite dim from the illuminating effect being given around the board showing the album name. The two colours used make the front cover appear bold as the white contrast the black making the name stand out from others. This colour scheme then follows onto the back cover of the album; a convention of form and something you would typically expect to see linking the front and the back.

The only image that is on the album is the board which is behind the album name. It is typically expected for most album covers to not have many images which clutters the album. The board allows the name of the band and the album title to stand out more and draw the attention of the buyer to this. On the back cover of the album there is not an image which is also a convention of form; the back cover consists of the song list and not having an image allows this to be the main focus.

The typography is in the form of a san-serif font which overall gives the album a more modern and unique approach. The typography for the album name and title however is in serif which brings a contrast between the two allowing it too stand out more. This then pulls the audience focus initially to buy the album. The style of the typography for the name of the band/album title is blurred and not connected. This is conventional for this genre giving a unique an edgy feel to the album. The typography of the song list is the same as the one used for when it states deluxe version; linking both the front and the back covers together which is a convention of form.

The focus is concentrated at the image and title of the album which is placed in the centre of the front cover of the album. Covering most of the album however leaving a surrounding each making it appear uncluttered and remaining sophistication. The back cover holds convention of form by the song list covering most of the album; clearly being placed on the left and right hand side of the cover. By placing the song list clearly in this way the audience can identify easily between the front and back cover of the album.

From this album cover is has conventional aspects of form and genre. The colour scheme of black and white is conventional for the genre as they are mostly applied in videos, album and costume to associate the bands with the genre. In terms of form it Is conventional as both the front and back have the same colours making the audience link between the two. It has generic layouts of having an image, the album name and title of band for the front and a song list for the front. Therefore it fits in terms of form and genre.
