There she wanders off and finds a mirror house, in which she encounters another girl who looks just like her. Horrified by the encounter, she runs to her parents, who notice something wrong with her, who doesn't speak for a period of time.
Some years later, Adelaide and her family, the Wilson's, take a vacation to Santa Cruz, California, Adelaide's hometown. That night, four silhouettes appear on the house's driveway with evil intentions, later it's known that they are copies of them, created by a failed project from the government that tried to control people, they cloned them physically, but not in the soul. At the beginning of the movie, it is said that there are thousands of miles of tunnels running underneath the US, in which the lookalikes supposedly live. There, they are deprived from sunlight and forced to eat rabbits to survive while their counterparts above enjoy nice meals and material comfort. This shows the contrast between people in society, and the existing gaps in privilege and opportunity in the US.
Some other factors that evidence this critic are the references to 'Hands Across America', a charity event which tried to raise awareness about hunger, homelessness and poverty, the event was not as succesful as expected, showing how people who could donate didn't do it because they were focused on themselves and don't care about misfortunate people's problems.]]> 2019-04-05 01:03:39 UTC https://padlet.com/aguscalo0103/x8hkirylzg7v/wish/348765709 aguscalo0103 https://padlet.com/aguscalo0103/x8hkirylzg7v/wish/348769451 Also, the movie's title can be read as "U.S." making a reference to the country. And finally, the bible verse Jeremiah 11:11, is seen throughout the movie, which says "I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. For I will not hear them in the time that they cry out to me".  Pointing out how arrogance and selfishness will eventually punish society.

This makes evident how the director's intention was to make a critic to current issues in America while making a horror masterpiece, I think the movie is chilling but at the same time it has a deep meaning that can make us think about how we really help others or how unconscious and ungrateful we are about what we have, all the opportunities and possibilities. I would highly recommend this movie to a horror fan or someone who is curious about it, you won't regret it.
