"When are you going to sell me that car?'... 'Next week, I got my man working on it now... No he doesn't, said Tom coldly. And if you feel that way about it, maybe I better sell it somewhere else after all."(Pg. 25)

These quotes from George Wilson and Tom connect to the theme of lies and deceit when Tom lies about how the car won't be ready to sell to George yet. Tom lies about this so he can continue to meet at George's house and see Myrtle and plan affairs. As Tom explains, "Next week, I got my man working on it now..."(pg. 25), he uses this as an excuse for George who wants to buy his car, but Tom is just trying to delay it farther so he can continue to come over. George doesn't realize this because he is so focused on buying Tom's car.

I'll Tell you God's truth... I am the son of some wealthy people in the Middle West -- all dead now... educated at Oxford... it is a family tradition." (pg. 65)

This quote connects to the theme of lies and deceit that is seen throughout the novel and is shown through Gatsby. Gatsby is very secretive about his life and doesn't trust anyone enough to tell him/her the truth of his past. He says he came from "some wealthy people..all dead now" , but really was the son of poor farmers who are still alive. He also says he was educated at Oxford which is a family tradition, however, we find out that he only attended for a short amount of time and that his family never went Oxford. Also throughout the story Gatsby never fully reveals his line of work and what he did to earn his fortune, he tells other characters, of the story, lies about what he does for a living.
