There are many places that I get to go out to visit like Ha Long Bay, or even the chillest place in Vietnam, Sapa. But unfortunately, I was unable to visit these places because my parents were busy all the time so I had to stay home all the time. One of my wish was going onto adventure trips or even go camping. 
Then at the age of 14, I move to the US. It was a huge dream for a lot out there. When I first arrive here, I only get to go to local places like LA, or Orange County outlet. That isn't similar to what adventure in the wild but still going somewhere to explore new things. 
My dream came to when I started high school. My parents also found a stable job that they can have time off. This time on my holidays, I go to big places like Mountain High, Yosemite National Park. The latest place that I get to explore is Arizona. My goal is traveling abroad and take aesthetic pictures of the places that I go through. And so the story started when Chris met Jim Gallien, a union electrician.(pg.4) Chris introduced to Jim that he is Alex, and his plan was to live off the land in the bush for a few months. Alex wants to go as close as he could go to the edge of Denali National Park. The path that Chris walked on as he left the car was unnavigable (pg.6) by foot. Besides that fact, he says that he will go on hunting without any license (pg.6) with a .22 caliber(pg.6). As a thank you toward Gallien, Alex gave him his watch and all of his loose change.(pg. 7). And so they slowly depart from each other and they can't predict that this is a last time that would be the last time they see each other.

Analysis: From my opinion, when the story started, I didn't know what was happening so it was a bit confused. And I think that Alex is kind of like a stubborn man because he wouldn't take others opinion. But we can't really determine who he is really yet. Im looking forward to what would happen next.

Kinley, Alaska.(pg. 9).The place is known for an abandon bus on it rail. Which was also the place where Chris's body was found by some hikers. They mentioned that both of them weren't on the abandoned bus, but they'd been notice (pg.12) " a real bad smell from the inside. Until the moment that Chris was found, the body was only weight 67 pounds(pg.12 )! And they also examined that he had been dead for 2 and a half week because of starvation (pg. 12). No one knew who he was at the moment because he didn't carry identification (pg.13) on his body.
Analysis: I was really shocked when I realize that the main character of the story is found dead at the of this chapter. The flow of this book is different and I believe the couple next chapter would be about places that he had been through.

It's a small town in South Dakota. It has a population of 274. During his time in Carthage, he met Westberg. Westberg is a person that helps many hitchhiker (pg.18), and Chris was his favorite hitchhiker so far. Westberg describes Christopher as a friendly person and he loves to socialize with others, therefore he got the respect (pg.19) from everyone. Westberg even got Christopher a job whenever he needs to. Christopher's nomadic(pg.19) life made Westberg worried (pg.22) for Christopher so he got him a place to stay and his wife cooked for him. Christopher's destiny (pg.23) was unknown by his family since his graduation until August that year.
Analysis: So one of the problem that made Chris decide to go on adventure is because of his family. I got a bit frustrated when I read this part because everyone has family problem, they all try to solve it. But Chris decided to run away. I think his journey is inspired by his desire to be himself and live the real life he had been wanting. I also like when he did think about the community especially those who are extremely in need of help.

He couldn't get the car out of the mud, therefore he decided to leave that useless baggage (pg.29) there and continue his journey on his feet. The journey from August to December was quite a bit challenging, he traveled south and tramped (pg.30) all around the border between the United States and Mexico. Christopher was hitchhiking at the beginning of August, and connected with other vagabonds (pg.29). He even made sure to stay in touch with those who helped him on his journey to achieve his best life. He had such an involvement in the kayak while he was venturing to every part of the south and had confronted a major tempest through it. Christopher made a suspicion that he could make it out there in the Alaska shrubbery since he endured the tempest in the south. Christopher made it back toward the north and found a new line of work, made some money but then he felt bored and jumped back to his jubilant (pg.34) odyssey.
Analysis: I'm stunned and respect his excursion in this section since I would not make due for a reality that in the event that I ever him. Christopher figured out how to traverse the tempest, and I discover that he could associate with others with his charms to assist him with getting past specific things. I appreciate the existence that he had while he didn't have numerous materials on him or the fundamental things that standard individuals need to endure these days. Christopher wasn't truly satisfied on the grounds that he was consistently ravenous and poor, in any case, he had carried on with the best life that he might at any point long for.

Christopher McCandless had stopped at Bullhead City and decided to work at McDonald's. His managers and coworkers remembered him as homeless (pg.41), they commented on the way he dressed and often offer him rides after work. Chris didn't seem to interact with them much since he felt the pressure on him, therefore he quit (pg.41). Chris had met Charlie while he was staying in Bullhead City. Charlie recalled that Chris extremely loved Jack London, sometimes he forgot that all the novels of London were fiction (pg.44), and he tried to live his life based on those novels. Chris was able to stay in touch with Jan Burreus and ask if they can come anytime to visit him. Jan and her boyfriend visited Chris while they were in the area, Jan was nice and always look after him like his mother. Jan knew a little of his background (pg.46) was from D.C. when he focused on the game. Chris was a person that didn't bother(pg.42) much by the pressure when he got asked about his family and tend to run away whenever he was confronted.

Analysis: I both appreciate and don't respect Christopher McCandless in this part. I appreciate that he had the option to find a new line of work and be truly about his personality, he even opened a saving record when he landed the position. I can't help thinking about why he opened the saving record, did he design anything for his future assuming he was as yet alive? I don't appreciate when his example consistently rehashed, he fled when he felt compelled and be stood up to by others. I comprehend that it is an irritating inclination when they don't comprehend your sentiments and continue to add strain to them. Nonetheless, I figure he might have been resolved it on the off chance that he represented himself and figure out how to communicate his thoughts around his friends and family.

Franz showed the paternal connection with Chris, because he has lost his own family and offer the adoption of Chris. However, Chris hesitated and repeated his hegira (pg.48) pattern, Chris feels like Ron is putting pressure on him. That's why he always hesitate and find a way to talk about a different thing. But more than that, Chris gave the old man an advice. Chris harangued (pg.51) Ron in his last letter, to wonder around the world and appreciate the surroundings. Christopher had been a hobo  (pg.53) in San Diego, and Seattle while he was looking for a job so that he could be prepared for his Alaska trip. Chris was able to visit Ron, Jan Burreus, and Westerberg for the last time he went to the Alaska trip. Christopher McCandless has made a painlessly(pg.55) goodbye to those who he made connections with and had helped him during his wander. He also left an image of unalloyed (pg.55) and unique hitchhiker in them, which they could never forget.
Analysis: This chapter really turn my feeling towards Chris. I know that somewhat of Chris want to change Ron. But it's just cruelty to reject a guy that want to adopt you, and ask you to inherit his whole fortune.

I'm not sure if Chris realize that he made good connections with others around him but don't know how to keep the relationships (pg.64). Especially with his parents, he realized that the more he stays with them, the more disrespectful (pg.65) they are. Regardless of all his past relationships, he made really good connections with people in Carthage. He keeps coming back to the town, and everyone loved him. The closer they get to know him, they learned that Chris was a celibate (pg.65) person. Christopher has died as a chastity(pg.66), which makes sense because he couldn't keep the relationships and not great with commitment. Due to the fact that he was chasing after his big dreams, the wilderness. He would rather to take the big risks (pg.68) in the nature than to chase after the relationships.
Analysis: I was really surprised when I read through the part where it says that he is a virgin when he died. I think that at around that age, most people can't resist when it comes to sex, but with Chris, he didn't even think about it. But there are two sides to this theory. It's because because he couldn't keep up with the relationships. Which we could also say that he wasn't great with the commitment, and always runs away when he felt the pressure.

Krakauer got many feedback letters from McCandless' story in the magazine, they made the assumption that Christopher wasn't different from other kooks (pg.71) when they challenged themselves in Mt. Kinley. However, Krakauer showed details between the stories to show the comparison. For instance, Carl McCun was most likely to Chris because they were unprepared(pg.72) and had youthful minds that they didn't think thoroughly. Even the wise man also failed his own mission, Gene Rosellini, he got over-confident (pg.72) like Christopher but lost basic common sense. John Waterman had some historic (pg.72) background like Chris, for example, he came from D.C. and had a perplexing (pg.71) paternal relationship. He just came to Alaska to climb the most difficult mountain, and never found his body. All these stories have something in common, however, Krakauer still made the statement that Christopher was nothing like them because he was in his right mind, and probably he came to Alaska as a pilgrim. This means that Christopher was following his belief which similar to Everett Ruess's story, died in the desert.

Analysis: I concur with Krakauer that he came to Alaska to follow his conviction. Nonetheless, I don't exactly appreciate Christopher McCandless when he realized that he will bite the dust in Alaska yet at the same time came at any rate. He's so obstinate and he ought to be more ready for himself the climate like Alaska to endure a couple of more days and could finish his main goal and return with great wellbeing. At any rate, he may do this with his goals, kicked the bucket as an energetic individual with satisfied dreams and interests.

Krakauer includes excerpts from Ruess’s correspondence in which he describes the allure of the solitary life. Analysis: The author gives an example about a person who tried to live freely in the wild, conquer challenging challenges, but the end will never end happily. This is the perfect example because Ruess have many things in common with Chris.

The polices asked him that how does he know that it is Chris. He describe the guy was carrying equipment that "Alex" was bringing. That's how the polices trusted him. Gallien says that Alex was from South Dakota and that made them shift their investigations. (pg.99) but still couldn't find any other clue. Luckily, Westernberg heard the radio inform others about a dead hiker in Alaska that sounds just like Chris. He came to Alaska State Troopers to provide any kinds of information that he knows about Chris on the spot. More than that there were over 150 calls (pg.100) of people that know infos about Chris. Then they had to reveal Chris SSN from W-4 form that Chris filled before. Polices then shift their research to Virginia where they find Sam McCandless, Chris half brother. Sam comes to Fairfax county Police Department and he was then shown a photograph of Chris. He then confirm that it's Chris. After that, Sam and his wife then drive to Maryland to inform Chris's family about his tragedy (pg.101) loss .
Analysis: I got really touched and sad when this chapter is over. I can't imagine how Chris family feel the moment when they receive the news, even his friends. It must be really emotional and feel so bad when you know that your son is starved and injured to dead in the wild.

Walt McCandless is intelligent and hard working person, and had the ability to work multiple jobs. Walt and Billie had a stressful (pg.107) time when they ran business together to make a lots of money and invest into Chris's and Carnie's future. Chris inherited many traits from Walt and Loren, Billie's dad, Chris and Carnie were welcomed to life with so many unusual gifts(pg.106). Chris took advantage of the intelligent that he got from his dad and made money out from odd jobs. Chris's nature view was from Loren, they both love the wilderness and they also much similar in many perspective. There was always the wanderlust (pg.108) energy in the McCandless' family, and it affected Chris the most. Therefore, after high school Chris took off right away to pleasure his itchy feet and wandering around the world. Chris was the most fearless (pg.109) child in the family, he could climb the most furthest on his own and got out of the house in the middle night as young as two years old toddler. The friends of Chris were also being interviewed in this chapter, and we could see that his point of view of the world was really different than what his friends  saw. He hated the idea of hungriness, and believe that everyone deserve a second chance to make up their life. That's why he rather spent the weekends to take care the vagrants (pg. 113) as a teenager than hang out with friends in the downtown. Basically, Chris was a person that didn't like to being told, and probably because he didn't like the idea of going to college but still being told to do so his disappearance for two years was unannounced so he could achieve his dream.

Analysis: I'm really impressive with the traits of Chris, it such an unusual gifts from God, if I was Chris I would be grateful. The family traditions also shock me and the incredibility of how Walt and Billie built up the family. I also feel bad for young Chris and Carnie when they didn't get too close with their parents at young age. I could see the family dynamics in the McCandless and how it affected Chris, he got so many similar traits with his dad and it made the relationship gone worse when both men were stubborn with their egos. I'm kind of related to Chris, because I do have some traits from my dad and we wouldn't listen to each other if we in the argument. That's why I think that love doesn't involve distance, distance makes people grow out of themselves and each other.

Chris had been raised overconfidently (pg.118), which he thought that the odd wouldn't apply to him. Therefore, he always took every chance when the summer came, and he hopped on his Datsun to be on the adventures. During these adventures, he had been discovered the biggest drama about his dad, Walt McCandless, was a liar to both households. He was moving forth and back between two wives, and both wives were pregnant. Neither of these two women knew about his affair, and when Chris found out he turned into a cold (pg.120) and sometimes got the anger (pg.121) inside of him with the family. Chris cut out from all of his family's drama and tried to be independent (pg. 125). Ever since he knew about the family's drama, he thought that all of his life was fiction (pg.123) , and he tried to make it all up for his own life with the adventures.

Analysis: If I was Chris I would have a whole mental break down, and I wouldn't know how to react at all. Poor little Chris, he didn't deserve all this, he meant for something better. I mean through this drama we understand Chris better, and get a closer look at Chris and now we know why he did what he did. His dad left a big scar on him and that's why he never believe in love, commitment, and capitalism.

But in this chapter, we have a special guest, the family dog (pg.128), Buck. The narrator came to visit Carine McCandless, Chris's sister, who appears to be the most hurting  (pg. 128) from his loss. Before starting on his journey, Chris asks his mom if he could take Buckey on his trip but his mom didn't allow that. Carine thinks that if Chris had taken the dog with him, he wouldn't end up in such tragedy as he is suffering right now. She also describes how she was really shocked when she was hearing that her brother died and her grief over Chris's death. She then visits Alaska to take his ashes and his belonging such as film rolls. She breaks down (pg 129) and grief (pg 129) so hard until she lost 10 lbs cause she refuses to eat and so does her mom. But oppositely, their dad gained a significant amount of weight!.
Analysis: I admire Chris and Carine's relationship so much and I have such empathy for her because of such a huge loss. The fact that she lost 10 lbs is unbelievable and she is truly caring for her.

Much like he anticipated, the ascent is dangerous and potentially deadly.  Krakauer proceeds with caution during whiteout snow storms while crossing over delicate crevasses (p. 140) which could crack and send him tumbling down hundreds of feet.  On a beautiful May day, Krakauer decides that this is it, he must summon the courage and concentration (p. 142) he needs to summit this peak today or else...Even with the warm temps and sunny day, the ice is impenetrable and Krakauer panics (p. 143).  He can see the summit, but he can't reach it.  His only option is down.

Analysis: This chapter has taught me a lot. The author is an extremely cool person, an avid climber, who challenged himself to the Devils Thumb in Alaska. With the stormy weather and icy glaciers, I had no idea how he managed to get 700 feet above ground level. I must admit, he is a tough and brave man. I believe when he wrote this book, he must have felt really bad for Chris because he was fortunate enough to receive help from a plane while Chris couldn't get any help at all.

]]> 2022-01-13 17:02:12 UTC https://padlet.com/dtran1401_2/x8bwj6nk95uz3v8/wish/1990813792 Chapter 15: The Stikine Ice Cap dtran1401_2 https://padlet.com/dtran1401_2/x8bwj6nk95uz3v8/wish/1990820907 Summary: So Krakauer makes it back to his tent, all butt hurt that he didn't achieve his goal of summiting Devil's Thumb.  In a genius move, he decided to smoke a joint to make himself feel better since he's a bit depressed.  Well, he ends up setting his tent on fire causing it to vaporize one of the walls so the temperature inside drops by 30 degrees or so.  Good job, Jon!  Anyway, this causes him to think about his reason for running away to climb:  his volatile (p. 147) history with his father!  They have a very similar relationship to Walt and Chris - dad is stubborn, treats his son poorly, pushes him away with his medical school expectations (p. 148) since he himself is a doctor.  Yeah, I know: we've heard this story before.  Jon uses these complicated (p. 147) family memories as motivation:  he's going to attempt to summit the Thumb to prove his disbelieving dad wrong!  He fixes his tent by packing it with snow and forges a plan to begin his final ascent on a slightly "easier" side of the mountain, the southeast side.  At sunrise, he summons ALL of his courage and overcoming all of the terrifying (p. 150) obstacles, he finally makes it to the top - YAY!  He enjoys the view for a minutes, snaps a few pics, and begins his descent.  When he finally makes it off the mountain, he tells a few people what he did.  They aren't extremely impressed.  This makes Jon think about what he did and why he did it, causing him to say, "I thought climbing Devil's Thumb would fix all that was wrong with my life.  In the end, of course, it changed almost nothing.  But I came to appreciate that mountains make poor receptacles for dreams. And I lived to tell my tale" (p. 155). Years later when writing this book, he realizes that his hubris (p.155) pushed him to his limits to achieve his goal, but that the impact his possible death had on those who loved him would've been catastrophic.  This is why he believes that Chris had NO intention to die in the wild, that he was only chasing his young, irresponsible dream.

Analysis: After reading about the author's story, I feel really happy for him because he was able to climb to the top of the Devils Thumb. He must have felt really happy because after all the hardships, he didn't give up. Also, his reason for doing something so risky was also due to the relationship with his father, very similar to Chris's reason for why he left home and lived in the wild. I admire Chris and Jon a lot because they are simply brave human beings, and never give up on something they want to achieve.

He started heading to Denali National Park by hitching rides. He met an RV delivery man named Gaylord Stuckey who gave him a ride from a hot spring at the edge of the Yukon territory to Whitehorse, Alaska. Gaylord was very impressed by Chris's intelligence, and during their ride, they were talking about Chris's family; we already know he has a good relationship with Carine but a very toxic relationship with Walt. Gaylord took Chris to Fairbanks, where he begged (p.160) Chris to call his parents, though Chris would never. He then visits the university and buys a book about edible plants. He also purchases a gun and leaves town without noticing Gaylord. After that, he met Gallien who dropped him off at Denali National Park. He went into the park and waded easily across the Teklanika River. On May 1, 1992, after a long time of trudged (p.163), he finds abandoned bus  records in his journal “Magic Bus Day.”He wrote about his independence, things he encountered, and how he overcame them. He was elated (p.163) because the bus was comfortable and he was part of the wild. When summer comes, he hikes away from the bus but encounters difficulty navigating the soggy summer ground. He returns to the bus, which he then considered as his home. At the end of the chapter, the author tells us that Chris was very close to civilization (p.168), including a highway, although he did not know it and was isolated enough not to be able to leave when he was on the brink of death.

Analysis: After reading this chapter, once again, Chris had left someone whom he met. Chris was very outgoing towards Gaylord, but when he was told to call his parents, he felt the need to leave. Chris's hardships don't seem to bother him but actually gives him good feelings. Recording his journal on the bus he calls home, was actually something he always wanted to do. I really like this trait of Chris because he seems to be living his best life without anyone nor technology to keep him company. Although I wonder why Gaylord didn't report Chris when he knows his story and where he was heading, maybe that would've saved Chris from death.

They use a topographic (p.173) map to locate a large aluminum basket strung across the river and we can tell that Chris never found this because he carried no map with him. Krakauer and his friends rode on the basket to get across the river as they screamed and shrieked, enjoying the thrilling (p.175) ride. As they hiked, our author feels that the landscape was unnerving and he was grateful (p.176) to be with his companions. After a while, at 9 PM, they had reached the bus where they found scattered skeletons of all the animals Chris had shot. He found a particular skeleton where people mistook it for a caribou, but it turns out to be a moose. Inside the bus, he found Chris's belongings where he took special interest in Jim Gallien’s boots and a custom machete scabbard made by Ronald Franz. After a while, the scene of the bus became eerie so they camped outside while eating moose meat using the same grill Chris used. While discussing Chris's death, they were reminded of the artist and explorer John Muir and the writer Henry David Thoreau’s nature writings to attempt to castigate (p.182) Chris for being unprepared. Chris was prepared and had a different philosophy where he was searching for a blend of self-sacrifice and independently achieved happiness to satisfy his beliefs (p.182). The night went by as they fell asleep discussing what type of person Chris was.

Analysis: This chapter gave me a sad but relaxing vibe. Our author and his companion simply wanted to see what Chris's situation was and if there was anything significant. When they found the gifts Chris received from others like the boots and machete, I felt really happy because Chris never forgot them, he simply just doesn't want to be part of a family. I felt like Chris could've lived a better life if he were to stay longer with one of the people he met. Thus, our author seems to be really understanding because he knows what Chris wanted and how he came to meet his end. Overall, I am happy that Chris' story was written and told because it's simple but carries deep meanings.

At the beginning of the chapter, Chris wanted to cross the river but he failed to, so he went back and started hunting. In his diary, he is said to be sickened by wild potato or Hedysarum Alpinum seeds. Although those seeds contain a toxin when they begin to sprout, why did Chris eaten so many sprouted seeds? One theory could he Chris being confused between wild potato with wild sweet-pea (p.191). Our author was certain that wild sweet pea was the cause behind Chris's death. However, when he sent the sample to the scientist, it had no sign of poison (p.190). But Krakauer didn't stop there, he researched for years and discovered a mold that produces a toxic alkaloid. With the given situation when Chris was slowly dying from starvation (p.198), he ate moldy wild potato seeds and was poisoned. On his hundredth day in the wild, Chris leaves a note that he will likely. He traveled North to find a cabin and he was suspected for vandalism, but it was never mentioned in his diary so he couldn't have done it. On August 5 1992, he wrote "DAY 100! I MADE IT!" jubilantly (p.195). Chris continued to hunt for food where he thrives on berries. Chris never made an SOS fire because that would harm the wilderness (p.188) that he dearly loves. Before he died, Chris left a note that he had a happy life behind a poem by Robinson Jeffers that describe death and stoicism. In the last lines of the book, Krakauer describes the peace in Chris's eyes in the last photograph he took of himself and compares him to a monk.

Analysis: After reading the last chapter of Into the Wild, I feel sad and bad for Chris. For the whole time, he carried a great amount of love for the wilderness, that was why he didn't think of going back to civilization. Even when he was on the brink of death, he couldn't start a fire to attract planes, but simply believed he lived a happy life, fulfilling his wishes. I really admire Chris after everything he had done because there aren't even a handful of people like him, who would think for mother nature rather himself. I wish someone would've found him and get him treated so he can live to tell his legacy. Overall, Chris is a brave and adventurous man who lived his beliefs.

They went to where Chris was found dead, the bus he resided in, and found some of his belongings. She recognizes the silverware (p. 202) he took from their house back in Virginia. Billie found a pair of jeans Chris left, she lifted it up, smelled it, and told Walt that it smelled like her son with a painful (p. 202) smile. After looking around for a while, they left behind a plaque (p. 202) memorializing Chris McCandless's death and a suitcase of supplies, including Christopher’s childhood bible, and a note urging runaways to contact their families. Chris's parents said they were glad to visit the bus and  specified that they might have found Christopher’s decision to live in the wild admirable if he had not died. Krakauer, Walt and Billie get back into the helicopter with a monumental silence (p.201). After the takeoff, they look at the bus as the distance slowly vanishes from their sight.

Analysis: After reading all of the chapters and the epilogue, I feel somewhat good towards Chris's parents, despite all their secrets and actions. They are still Chris's parents and of course would want to protect him at all cost. Although by the time they realized how bad they were as parents, it was too late to say their apologies after finding their son dead. I'm super grateful for the narrator, Jon Krakauer, because he was able to retell Chris's story and turn it into a national bestseller. Honestly, I don't feel like this book was a tragedy but simply telling everyone that if you follow your heart, without regret, you will find freedom and happiness.

One of the passage that I couldnn't ignore (pg.4) which is "Extrmely weak. Fault of potato seeds." After a tip from a writer name Ronald Hamilton with a grim story about poisoning in Nazi, Krakauer started to investigate and test the seeds called beta-ODAP. He partnered up with a chemist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and hired company to analyzes seeds sample. By September 2013, after completely send out the seeds to the Michigan lab for through the test. When the result came in, he later then published (pg.9) in the journal Wilderness & environmental Medicine that the seeds contain a toxin called amino acid- L canavanine. The debate (pg. 18) would still contain of Chris's death continue. We can't determine how many seeds he ate in 2 weeks and what leads to his death. Krauker concludes that :" What he did wasn't easy". And he did really well. If he hadn't been weakened by the seeds . I'm confident he would survive"
Analysis: Everyone thought that Chris was death because of starvation. Until a mysery revealed that Chris was death because he ate the seeds contain poison. Even though he ate the seeds but he lived for 113 days off and Krakauer believed that he would have survived if he didn't eat those seeds

Our family consists of three members, my mom, me, and my older sister. It's surprising and proud to say that my single mom raised me all by herself. I arrived in the U.S at the age of 14. I remember clearly that my family was struggling financially. It takes a while for all the legal paperwork to come. So my mom found and worked at a local bakery shop with a low pay rate of ninety dollars per day. She worked for almost ten to twelve hours every day. My heart fluttered whenever she arrived home every night. After six months working at that bakery, my mom finally quit because it gave her a stressful and depressing time. After that, she eventually changed to another job to become a cashier in an Asian supermarket. Our financial situation improved slightly, but it was still difficult because the rent was relatively high with essentials. 

I believe that I was born to be a challenger. In the future, my plan is to find a stable job and move out to live independently. That's one of a dream goal of my life. And of course it takes time to achieve to many small steps, starting from have a part-time job, buy my first car and even learn to organize my time carefully. I really hate to keep myself free, so I want to work and study hard right now, so then my effort would be paid off one day. I love to travel a lot. Imagine one day, there is nothing to care about and you would wake up in a different country to enjoy life. I really hate the frame that my family put me in. So i'm always trying my best to get away from it

It usually starts from how the main character grows up and develops throughout 60% of the book. But this book hits differently because the author reveals the big ending in the second chapter. Overall, I really enjoy the book, but there are many parts that I wasn't agreed with it and shifted my thoughts toward Chris.
Chris could have still chased his dreams without hurting anybody in the family, or any of his close friends. If he knew how to act like a man, and know how to solve and settle the problems completely first. He just couldn't suddenly run away like that, it was so irresponsible. There could be a better way to react to his dad's problem. On his journey, Chris was so lucky that he met a lot of people, who loved him sincerely. However, when they got close to him, he keep running away from them. I really don't like Chris because of his confrontation. He didn't know how much he hurt all the people around him. His pain can not be an excuse for him to treat people poorly.
Anyway, Chris and Carnie also don't deserve to be treated the way their parents treated them. They must have been hurt so much in their childhood time. I absolutely can't accept that Walt was having two households for years and even have a kid with his ex-wife after Chris was born. I can't imagine how much it hurt Chris as a teenager upon receiving such news about his own dad. How could there be such a jerk like Walt? Although he was financially successful, he's completely an irresponsible man and the worst dad ever.
He has a great dream, and working to achieve your dream is also a great thing. But he also needs to care about other things in his life as well. And if he chooses to only focus on his dream, please at least be prepared. Everyone, including him, knows that living in the wild is a really dangerous risk. But he forgot the most important thing, the map. OMG, who did he think he was, a GOD?! how could he know all the directions without the map?! He also didn't prepare a backup plan. If he just leaves a note or tells someone before he went into the wild that if they don't see him getting out after a certain time, please find him. He might have to end up dying alone in the wild and can come back living a better life.

During these adventures, he had been discovered the biggest drama about his dad, Walt McCandless, was a liar to both households. He was moving forth and back between two wives, and both wives were pregnant. Neither of these two women knew about his affair, and when Chris found out he turned into a cold (pg.120) and sometimes got the anger (pg.121) inside of him with the family. Chris cut out from all of his family's drama and tried to be independent (pg. 125). Ever since he knew about the family's drama, he thought that all of his life was fiction (pg.123) , and he tried to make it all up for his own life with the adventures.

Analysis: If I was Chris I would have a whole mental break down, and I wouldn't know how to react at all. Poor little Chris, he didn't deserve all this, he meant for something better. I mean through this drama we understand Chris better, and get a closer look at Chris and now we know why he did what he did. His dad left a big scar on him and that's why he never believe in love, commitment, and capitalism.
